Gmail Announces Multiple "Pre-Written" AutoResponses...

This just in. You can now create "canned" or pre-written autoresponses in Gmail. This means Gmail will autoreply to certain emails based on specific criteria.

Here's some ways this can be used (or abused).

Craigslist:
Write an ad. Tell them to put the word "rent" in the subject. Gmail will auto-respond with a canned message telling them if it's still available, requirements and location.

Put up another ad for a boat. Same email, different subject. Gmail sends them an email telling them the boat's details and your contact info.

Poor-Man's DLGuard (Sorry Sam! ):
After the item is sold in Paypal, give instructions for the person to send an email with a secret word in the subject. Gmail will auto-respond with the download location (or attachment if it's possible).

Tech Support
Selling a product? Send an auto-reply with your Installation/Techie/FAQ page and a note saying you'll get back to them within 24 hours if the subject says "problem" or "help".

I'm sure there's more...but I gotta get back to work.

Gmail is no more on the top of free email accounts providers list. When it was started people thought it as a hign-end product from Google and started using for business accounts too.

Recently many spammers using gmail as their mail servers to send spam ... webmasters are banning gmail accounts in the forum registrations and mailing lists.

I don't think product downloads and business emailings should be conducted thru gmail.

    Just my thoughts ...

You can actually use Gmail as the provider for your domain. So instead of soandso@gmail.com it is soandso@yourdomain.com all handled by Google and gmail.

While that's a possible use, I don't think it'll hurt Sam too bad. Cuz once you send them a direct download link that isn't secure, they can still share it.

I know, I know...I love my DLGUard. Best investment ever.

Just thinking out loud. I'm sure there are many other uses.

I had some old email accounts that were just totally flooded by spam and the filters were leaving a lot of it through. I pointed them all at a single gmail account and let them sort it out for me. The way that I did it was to make all of the email accounts forwarders through my Cpanel accounts instead of their own main account.

These aren't emails that I ever answer (rarely anyway) but it is amazing what all I was missing from sorting through them too quickly.

Your own domain is one thing, but using an actual @gmail.com address to conduct business doesn't scream professionalism or trustworthiness.
