Please Recommend Frontpage Alternative For Creating Webpages

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for an alternative to Frontpage to create my sales letters in. I've found Frontpage is making a mess of some of the code and I need something different.

I'm looking for a good WYSIWYG editor and don't mind paying decent money for it.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

  • Kompozer and NVu are great alternatives. Both free.

    If you want to pay, Dreamviewer is probably the way to go.

  • Dreamweaver is pretty good.
  • If you don't mind paying then the only option is Dreamweaver, it's what a lot of the professional design companies use when they're not hand coding websites.

    Kompozer is just as good though and free

  • Kompozer if you want free. If you want to code by hand, consider Notepad++

    If you're used to the Microsoft way of doing things (Word, Excel, etc.) you'll like the relatively new Expression Web (4.0 was released this month, the original was released in 2006). It gets rid of the annoyances that plagued FrontPage and it has PHP support as well as support for MS technologies like .NET.

    While Dreamweaver is a powerful tool for some, I find its UI to be obtuse.

    I have narrowed it down to a choice between Dreamweaver and Expression Web.

    I'm edging towards Expression Web because of my familiarity with Word, Excel, etc.

  • Trellian web page is free - is pretty good too. But I am wondering why you don't go with WP? I find it sooooooo much easier all round.
  • For sales letters??? Hands down XsitePro.

    I have and have used Dream Weaver, Front Page and some of the free editors but for niche sites, sales letters and landing pages none beat the functionality and speed of XsitePro.

    • If you have the money go with xsitepro as it makes it real easy to create fast websites. Just remember that the included templates are ugly and you will need to learn to create you own.

      I was a frontpage guy but does not work on windows 7 but expression web is excellent if you are really good with CSS. If CSS is your thing as expression his built from the ground up to create standard CSS layout and formatting type website so it has a little bit of learning curve.

      Dreamweaver seems to be a little bit more flexible than expression web and there are more tutorials on how to use it and that Is why I use dreamwever. If not for that and if you are really good with CSS then go with expression web as I have found as for as capabilities it has caught up with dreamweaver and the look and feel is better.
  • Notepad++ for the win.

    Hand coding is always best. I gave up a long time ago on programs. It's much more efficient IMO to just hand write it. I usually have a template that I work off of and just design it from there.
  • Expression web is the best piece of MS software I've used in a long time. It has a heavy emphasis on valid code, which is an amazing turn around for MS.

    If I'm having a problem with a page sometimes I'll run it through a validator. Last time that didn't help, got about 4 comments that didn't directly point to the problem. Put the page in EW and the problem had a light highlight with a little note on hover that commented on why that part of the code was a problem.

    One part of it, Superpreview, is the best thing I have ever used to beat a site into shape for IE 6. (If anyone else still does that)

    I do most of my stuff in notepad++ but EW just keeps coming in handy for one thing or another.
  • Serif WebPlus is a good one and you can do anything you want with it. Very flexible once you figure it out.
  • I also recommend Dreamweaver. I don't recommend the $300 though!

    Go to the Adobe website and get the 30 day free trial. That way you can mess around with it for a while before you have to do anything with it.
  • As people have mentioned, I recommend Dreamweaver.
  • Dreamweaver is pretty much the standard, it's really all I use and creates very clean code, style sheets, etc.

    • My vote is for Komposer. It's downright quick and gets the job done.

      Tried Expression Web which is the last version of FrontPage. Everytime I used EW I had problems with coding. It still has to use Front Page extensions inside my webhost.
