Around 200,000 Page Views a Day - Advice on Subscriber Lists?
I have been a lurker here for awhile and appreciate the great advice. I have a background in programming, not in marketing.
I currently have a variety of sites on different topics. They are all informational sites so there is very little day to day work required right now to keep them going, except for occasional updates and broken link checking.
Right now I'm getting around 200K page views a day, about half of that is from book marks and most of the rest is from organic search engine traffic.
I suspect I could be making more money if I knew anything at all about marketing. Right now I just make money through network ad and affiliate programs. None of the sites have any subscriber lists. I have thought about putting a list on the most popular site. My concern is that I think the list would be very large relatively quickly, probably 100K or so, which would set me up for a large fixed fee each month for the list maintenance fee. I'm not sure I would get a return on my investment plus I'd have the hassle of maintaining the list and sending out a newsletter or some kind of tip of the day or week to put in the list.
I could also put list on some of the other sites, but realistically I have a lot of sites so I couldn't keep up that many lists and newsletters by myself.
Any thoughts or advice? I'm just curious if lists are always worth the hassle and if they are usually worth the cost of the monthly list fee. From looking at the list services it would be at least several hundreds dollars a month of fixed costs for a list in the size of six figures.
