Around 200,000 Page Views a Day - Advice on Subscriber Lists?

Hello All,

I have been a lurker here for awhile and appreciate the great advice. I have a background in programming, not in marketing.

I currently have a variety of sites on different topics. They are all informational sites so there is very little day to day work required right now to keep them going, except for occasional updates and broken link checking.

Right now I'm getting around 200K page views a day, about half of that is from book marks and most of the rest is from organic search engine traffic.

I suspect I could be making more money if I knew anything at all about marketing. Right now I just make money through network ad and affiliate programs. None of the sites have any subscriber lists. I have thought about putting a list on the most popular site. My concern is that I think the list would be very large relatively quickly, probably 100K or so, which would set me up for a large fixed fee each month for the list maintenance fee. I'm not sure I would get a return on my investment plus I'd have the hassle of maintaining the list and sending out a newsletter or some kind of tip of the day or week to put in the list.

I could also put list on some of the other sites, but realistically I have a lot of sites so I couldn't keep up that many lists and newsletters by myself.

Any thoughts or advice? I'm just curious if lists are always worth the hassle and if they are usually worth the cost of the monthly list fee. From looking at the list services it would be at least several hundreds dollars a month of fixed costs for a list in the size of six figures.

This is an easy one to answer.

Definitely build a list. You can use an autoresponder and enter in a year's worth of content all at once. Or you could pay someone input the content for you.

Having a list is THE easiest way to make money online. You shouldn't look at it as a hassle. Just give people what they want and you can earn money on demand just by hitting the send button.

You will definitely be able to earn many times more than the cost. That should not even be a consideration.

Plus, having a list will help you do JVs with others in the niche. This can really take your business to the next level.

Ron, thanks for the reply. If I wanted to set up something like a tip of the day or tip of the week, I can set that all up a year in advance with an autoresponder?

Do you have a recommendation on which service to use for this feature?

Well done for the amount of traffic you are generating.

I must admit I find it baffling that with that amount of traffic you aren't already building a list...

Anyway, it's never too late to start. Do bear in mind that although you are getting a large amount of traffic to your site, if you only got 20% of them signing up each day that would be a good conversion rate.

Remember you need to really give your subscribers something of value in order for them to part with their email address.

I would also recommend Aweber. Their prices start from $19 a month and go up as your subscription rates go up.

Once you have a large list you could always consider ad swaps too.

Thats excellent, is your site a forum or a .com or blog ?
The traffic is from many different sites. The high traffic ones are not blogs.

hey Mate - YES build a list. Use aweber. You can hunt around and find a white label of aweber and the pricing should be the old version - which didn't matter about the number of subscribers - it was $19.95 a month up to 10,000 subscribers (I think). Some of us who've been with aweber for a while are grandfathered in at that subscription plan - and so are the white label versions.

Here are a few you can check out - not sure of their pricing but I believe they are all aweber white label...

    xmailpro
    listping
    turboautoresponders
    ninjaresponder
    ProFollow

    Hi Jane doe

How you are not making any money with 200K visitors a day is beyond me, but you should definitely build a list and get your sites monetized. I find Aweber gets banned by some email clients but it is still one of the most popular.

Also try Getresponse though the rate you pay will increase as your subscribers do or
trafficwave is great unlimited subscribers, unlimited autoresponder campaigns and unlimited adtracking campaigns.

    Best of luck

Aweber is definitely the best. They also continually keep working on making it better. So great that you are having the success with visitors that you are - many here would love that number of visitors!

Thank you for the tip. I will check them out. I try to keep my expenses really low which is why I'm concerned about possibly incurring hundreds of dollars a month in list costs when I don't know in advance what the return on that money would be. Plus I don't want to start a list and then end it right away if it doesn't make much money.

I didn't say I wasn't making money. I just could probably be making more money. I tend to keep the ads and any marketing efforts on my sites pretty low key as those are the kinds of sites I prefer myself. And I rarely sign up for other site's newsletters so I'm rather ambivalent about sending one out myself.

Find someone experienced in list building, creating a good rapport and squeezing profit from a list and negotiate a deal.

If you haven't done mailings before it'll take you a while to figure this out - better to give up 30-40% of immediate profitability and let someone else do the work (you get to watch and learn of course) than to spend several months getting 100% of nothing.

    Just my opinion
