What are the best types of sites?

Hi all,

So I know about review sites. You review a product, place your affiliate link on the review page, and hope to see some commissions. I have some other questions concerning the development of review sites, but I'll leave those for another post.

The purpose of this post is to poll my fellow Warriors on the different "site-types" that have profit potential. What type of sites have you been the most interested in? Why do you like them? If you have developed multiple sites (and site-types) which one is the best and why? Which type of sites have the greatest profit potential?

Thank you in advance for all of your comments.

I try to build sites that real people are interested in, like Men's Magazine, Celebs, Fashion, Sports, Hobbies, etc ... not just MMO sites. Then I get traffic and revenue going and flip them for profit.

In the MMO niche, I would build minisites with a unique ebook to sell ... again to flip.

And you point this observation out here (completely off topic) why?

How about offering advice to the original poster.

Niche Topics, i focus on Tech/Security and Video On Demand.
The areas I know the most about, id never start a site about cooking or golf although popular topics, ive got no idea.

Stick to what you know, and do it well.

I don't think there are the 'best' types of sites, won't that vary from individual to individual?

Well, let me offer you some advice here.

Hope is not going to bring you commissions - no matter what the niche or domain name or product.

Any site needs some traffic driven to it, and needs some good writing or copy or something of real value offered to the visitor, needs some testing and tweeking and revisions to make things better, and some regular maintenance.

Any site can be the best site. It needs to be treated like a garden. Grow what you want, use the right fertilizer, pull the weeds, and help it grow.

Don't sit around and wait for the rain to happen. Get out the garden hose and see if things start to grow.

Stick with what you know. Choose a niche you're interested in or you know about. It'll make the job easier and more enjoyable for you.

Despite moving towards squeeze page > emails > sales page, I've still made the most money on just plain old sales pages. Not made anything on review sites, news site, some on squeeze pages but not nearly as much as straight "solve their problem right now while their credit card is in hand" sales pages.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.
