Tip for when you buy products through affiliate links...

Hey Warriors,

An experience was brought back to my memory this morning which taught me a lesson I thought I'd share.

You know how when big products are launched, the primary affiliates with their heads screwed on will offer one of their best products for free when people buy through their link?

Well, here's my tip...

Do not buy through an affiliate link of someone promising access to their upcoming product.

That's what my husband and I did way back when we bought the initial PLF 2.0.

A marketer we respect (I'd say everyone here has heard of them and respects them), promised access to their forthcoming product.

It was a toss up between this guy and Stompernet. But, his seemed more relevant to our needs (writing/copy related) than what Stompernet were offering (SEO related).

That's over two years ago. And there has been nothing.

So, learn from our mistake.

We wish we'd bought through Stompernet

P.S. For the record, we never regretted buying PLF.

I think you are right upto much extent. In today's world everyone is there to get the maximum out of you. They will do the false promises to sell you the things once and once you bought it and they have their commissions, they do not know who are you. I generally prefer buying directly from the seller rather than from an affiliate.

      Two questions:

      1. Did you contact them and ask them where your bonus was? And if so, what was their response?

      2. Are you 100% sure you purchased through their affiliate link? For one reason or another you may have still had another affiliates cookie on your computer. Just clicking on their affiliate link to purchase is not a full-proof method. I would always make sure I wiped all my cookies before clicking on that last affiliate link to purchase.

I have bought many things where bonuses were promised and have always received the bonuses. One or two were a little slow in getting them out but they did eventually come.

        1. No, we didn't. We didn't buy the product for the bonus. However, I follow their primary website, and would know when it was released.

Furthermore, a Google search found that the marketer has had a discussion on another individual's blog, where they asked in their post in a kind of 'by the way' fashion, "whatever happened to that?"

The marketer in question responded (in February this year) that it's still on it's way.

Is it reasonable to be asked to wait over two years for your bonus? (that's if it is ever released).

        2. Yes. we had contact with them immediately after purchase. They know we bought through them.

Let me add, I'm not out to get this guy.

I'm just warning, if you are going to buy in relation to the bonuses on offer, make sure the bonus is a readily available product which they can deliver to you straight away.

Not a pie-in-the-sky idea, which is yet to be created.

I understand your frustration but I also think people need to be aware that just clicking on an affiliates link is not always enough to guarantee you purchased through their link.

Do you want me to go and get this guy for you? ;-)

Yes, it was best to clarify I suppose.

No, not at all Like I said, we're not out to get the guy. It's a lesson learned, that's all.

Thanks for your post , It is unfortunate that some business people have no shred of integrity in their spine.

This calls for more vigilance when something sounds too good since most marketers capitalise on the vulnerability and the desire for people to succeed.

Good caution thogh for those still looking for products and services that may be an avenue for future finacial freedom.

This is a great "eye-opener". I have purchased many products over the years, but I always purchase through a marketer I know ... or one that has been recommended to me. (This helps me sleep better at night.)
