Clickbank: Does using a URL shortening service mess up your hops/links?

Hello,

I did a quick search, but didn't find anything. So, if you use a URL shortening service such a bit.ly or tiny url, does it still allow your link to be tracked if any sales are made?

Thanks in advance.

I do not believe on URL shortening services. I had a bad experience with those. I made few short urls few weeks ago and started using them but I soon checked and saw that most the urls are not working with no reason. So, I do not recommend it.

I got credited for sales that I generated using URL shortening services.

I don't use them anymore though because it is so easy to simply redirect to another site from your domain

ive never really had any issues, though i dont use them any more myself for other reasons. Bit.ly always worked well for me and it allows easy click tracking too, though i know there are plenty of other services available.

I use the Prettylinks Wordpress plugin, but I ought to start doing the PHP redirect trick.

They work just fine, it's just a redirect, no different to you forwarding a domain
    to an affiliate link.

My advice, however is to keep it "in house"

Register a short domain, such as:

    ww w.shortlink.com

    Then setup folders such as:

    www.shortlink.com/product1
    www.shortlink.com/product2

And make your index file in each directory be the re-direct.

With the above , if the URL shortening company goes belly up, you're still safe.

I've also used bit.ly and been credited for sales, so theres no issue there, but I wouldn't use them as a long term solution.

Thanks to twitter, people on social sites have no hesitation clicking bitly offers, so its great for clickthroughs
