Exact Keyword Domain Names

Ok, I've been reading some of the stuff floating around about getting the exact keyword in your domain for a little boost in the rankings but besides all that I had a question. Is it worth it to reg one of these that has around 14k exact searches per month in the .net or .org extension? Which one would be better?

My personal experience is that the .org is better than .net but it seems that they are relatively close.

So is it a good idea to reg the name or is 14k even worth it?

  • .com is really the best for seo and if it's a 2 or 3 word you might see if the dash is available like

    exact-keyword.com

14k per month is definitely profitable if you rank #1, I have adsense sites do $50-$100 per month, set and forget, month after month, with less searches per month than 14k, however, it all depends on the exact keywords/niche

Exact match domains aren't magic, they were very effective some years ago, but for the less competitive niches. Building a website is a lot of work, and building backlinks can be a lot of work to. Before you register the the domain I suggest you visit Google's Adwords tool to see what the CPC is to see if it's a profitable niche. Then use MarketSamurai, TrafficTravis or SEOQuake (Firefox addon) to see the number of backlinks the websites on Google's first page has and how well their optimized. If you make the 1st page of Google (other then #1) you could expect roughly 4-7 percent of the search traffic, even less for page 2. EMD will give you a little advantage, but they aren't as effective as in the past. JMO

I agreed what Alanfukuda said, buying exact domain name sometimes seemed not the #1 solution for ranking in first page, you could check with tools, I suggest to use Traffic Travis (Free version) and type in your keywords to check the backlinks, H1 Tag, title names..etc, so you could get an idea. Then, you can get a rough ideas of how your kewords will go. In traffic travis, it will also tell you how competitive the keyword is by giving stars (1 being very difficult and 5 being easy).

I know this. I'm not wanting the domain for a magical #1 spot solution. I know it helps some maybe not a whole lot but some and I was wondering if it would be worth it. I know the competition I just want to know about getting the name.

The competition is not tough for this and the PR's are relatively low so that's not a problem.

take the keywords to Google search and see how many advertisers are in the sponsor column. The more the better as they are paying to be there and if you do your site right you don't have to.

To me exact searches not as important as advertisers.

This is correct i have made many sites with the keyword in the domain, the last one i made went to number 6 in google for a keyword with 6000 searches within 3 days all i did was submit to search engines and a couple of social media sites, .org is good, ive never tried .net, i have had good results with .co.uk

I also researched and picked few 2k,3k,5k and even 74k exact keyword pharse domain names and also planning to start working on those domains. As all suggest .com is best.

Good question. I have used quite a few domains and found that the .com .net and .org to be the easiest ranked. For SEO purposes as long as the exact match keyword is in the domain you will get some kind of bonus to rank. Using hyphens some believe makes it harder to rank because Google thinks they are spam sites for some reason.

I have ranked domains with a single hyphen and a .info tld but it did take some backlinks and a lot of relative content.

I would agree with others that the .com is the best, next is .net, .org then the rest are about the same.

A domain with 14,000 exact searches a month most likely has some competition, it won't be super easy to rank, but it won't be too hard.

I have many high ranking sites with an exact keyword phrase domain in both .com and .net, and one .org. What's funny is the .org site is ranked #2 on page one and there are over 5 million results for that search phrase. That just goes to show you that doing your keyword research is very important.

It doesn't make any real difference. .net or .org are both great. It's the SEO factors that make them rise to the top or not ...
