I didn't see the notice for that. I rely on the automatic upgrade on the dashboard and it didn't indicate an upgrade yet.

Hmm. As far as I'm aware the general release hasn't happened yet. I think they are still in the final release candidate phase.

I haven't seen it yet. God I hope it doesn't break my sites.

Edit: Just watched a video on it. Looks much more robust. Definitely like the menu and post changes.

I foresee a lot of issues though with older themes. Hopefully they won't conflict.

Have been "playing" with the Beta's for awhile and am now putting the final release (just of the press today) onto one of my test servers. Will have a full report once I mess with it.

I did notice that a few Plugins wouldn't work correctly with the beta's, not sure if this is still the case. Of course this is to be expected with any new release.

Otherwise I love the new API features available to developers, and the ability to manage multiple sites (like WordPress MU) is intriguing.

      Hi Bill

Got a link I can follow on this subject?

      Appreciated!

The "official" 3.0 is out - it came in the mail from the WP mailing list.

I was also playing around with the RC... it has some great potential!

I will also report back about my experience - when I get home (at the moment traveling in Europe).

All is compatible here so far, though I haven't updated anywhere near all my sites yet and am in no great rush to until I've given it a proper test run, but I like it a lot.

I've been playing with the release candidates too, and from a user point of view I especially love the flexibility of the new 'menus' feature. From a developer's point of view, my Inner Geek is blissfully happy at the prospect of doing something new with WordPress code and can't wait to get started. I think it might have to fight off my Inner Football Fan first.

      Hi Diana

I found a Google Analytics plugin I was using would break the Admin dashboard when used with one of the earlier Release Candidates, I will be testing it later tonight to see if that has been fixed in the production version.

I suspect many of the more popular plugins will be updated to reflect this new release.

Like yourself I'm in no great rush to update any on my existing sites yet - sometimes being an early adapter is not the best situation!

The first blog I checked didn't have the 3.0 is available and I found one other that didn't either. So I did the ones that had it first. One finally did show it on it's own but to see it on that last blog I clicked Updates in the sidebar and it showed up.

I didn't have any problems with plugins or themes. Some are custom themes but I'm also using iThemes and FlexSqueeze.

I was worried when I saw how different the new release is but figured if there was a problem it wasn't going away. Might as well just do it. I lucked out I guess.

It won't install plugins if your blog is in a subfolder. It keeps saying "can't create public_html".

Tried with several different plugins to no avail.

So based on this I'm not impressed as I had to install all the plugins manually.

Sexy Bookmarks no longer shows the icons after upgrading, but all you have to do is go into the settings and click the Save Changes button and they work again. You don't have to make any changes, just have to click the button.

I like Wordpress 3.0 because of it's better menu management, This menu system will have a drag and drop functionality that will combine Pages, Categories, and Links. It will also allow the ability of re-ordering, along with sub-menus, and hiding specific Pages or Categories from the menu altogether.

It doesn't show a completion message even when the upgrade is complete.

I'm loving it! I've got a pretty packed WPMU membership site, and have installed WP 3.0 multi site (or whatever they call it now) on one of my test sites... I absolutely love it!

    It's so easy!

Buddypress installed with the click of a button and themes all seem to be working well. Haven't given the plugins a big workout yet - but I normally use a wide selection of wpmu plugins - so will def be testing it out.

No longer will I pay AU$300+ to have wpmu / buddypress / bbpress installed on my sites - it's now a five minute job for me to do myself... WOOT!!

Yes, working like a charm. I just upgraded one of my sites, that had about 10 plugins active and upgraded flawlessly.
and Yess, NewbiesDiary, you're right, not having to pay somebody to install to WP Multi-Site (formerly WPMU) is awesome.
I was looking at a service do the install for me (prior to 3.0), which woudl have cost $200.
Some great new possibilities are opening up.

Upgraded a couple of sites no problem at all. Then upgraded another and now just have a totally blank screen. Can't access login and the site isn't there either!

Now desperately searching the support forums for an answer. Anybody know real quick? And please don't tell me to reinstall from backup because it seems I didn't have automatic backup installed on this particular site.

Yup, lesson learned but hopefully not too late. At least I'll get a good grounding in trying to make sense of geekspeak on the forums lol.

The idea of wp3 is awesome especially the wpmu elements as I build a lot of wpmu for linking purposes so will be giving this ago with the next aged domain I buy.

They do say on the wordpress site that they don't have plans to move forward with a 3.1 for the next few months as they are concentrating on other areas of wordpress, which could be a concern but I am assuming this doesn't mean they won't be bringing out 3.01, 3.02 etc as we find bugs for them to fix, just like with every other release of WP

I'd guess this is the same PLR themes package that I got through a PLR membership site. If so, they're generated with Artisteer. From what I've seen they'll work 'as is' with 3.0 although the new features won't be used.

Someone did have some suggestions on mods you can make to get it to work with the new 3.0 features though: Make Your Artisteer Menu Compatible With The New Wordpress 3.0 Nav Menu

I just wish the much touted multi-site capability was actually enabled by default.

They shouldn't talk about how great a feature is only to then make the users go in and do a bunch of code changes in the config file just to able to access that feature.
