Yes...Somebody CAN Get YOUR YouTube Account Disabled

I just made the most startling discovery and I honestly don't know what to
make of it other than somebody purposely went out of their way to get
my main YouTube account disabled.

1. All the content uploaded was original. In fact, they were all home made
videos.

2. None of the videos were of any objectionable material. My newest video
was 6 months old and some were years old.

3. I use NO black hat methods to drive traffic to any of my videos. I don't
think I had one video with more than 3,000 views.

When I look up my name at YouTube, I find spoof videos of me, but mine
are all gone. My whole account...gone.

Now, I don't rely on YouTube for much of my income so honestly, I don't
care if they killed my account. Whatever.

But I am 100% sure that the account was disabled because of something
that somebody did to get it disabled.

Thus, if this can happen to me, it can happen to anybody.

If you know me, you know I do everything by the book online. Hell, I
don't even use article spinners and submitters, which is considered tame
by some standards.

For my YouTube account to be yanked, somebody must have had it in
for me.

Let this be warning to anybody who thinks that things like this CAN'T
happen to them even if they did absolutely NOTHING to cause it to
happen.

It can.

There is a BIG, BIG lesson here.

If you depend on ANY 3rd party site for ANY of your income, no matter who
or what it is, you CAN lose it.

This is why you MUST use every avenue of promotion at your disposal
because things CAN happen for no good reason at all.

I can understand about not using one source, as I think most experienced business people would know that to be rather basic.

However, as much as you might not like Google, Youtube is simply too powerful of a traffic source to be shut out of. There is no equal for video distribution and exposure. So the fact that you cannot get answers makes this part very disturbing, and I know how frustrating it is to try and get answers out of Google or Youtube. The thought of even facing that is pure anxiety.

Steve, the actual problem in your OP is there is NOT a lesson to be learned if we don't know why the account was wiped out.

If I remember correctly youtube will delete your account
if they delete 3 of your videos.

Which means that if someone starts flagging your videos
(happens a lot to those who promote adult websites),
they will start to get deleted, and eventually your
    account will get deleted too.

Okay, that makes sense. So somebody purposely flagged a bunch of my
videos (vindictively I might add...and I think I know who) and got my
      account zapped.

        Yeah that's probably it.

It happened to me too Steven. YouTube (AKA Google) seems to care more about the complainer than the honest video contributor. It really is a shame...

I guess they could do that, but why would they delete an account where
the videos are still getting views?

If that's the reason and I had known that, I would have kept uploading
videos. But there is nothing in their TOS about "dormant" accounts.

Would you consider opening a new account with a new name and resubmitting? Or opening many new accounts and resubmitting many times? Opening many accounts has the advantage of making it harder for one person to track all your work and bring everything down.

Sorry to hear that Steven, I watched one of your videos a while back and it was entertaining.

You Tube disabled one of my videos that had 120,000 views last week. I got a email from my outsource employee and got me concerned, I thought she said they deleted by youtube account (thats account bring 15k in traffic a month gone)m scary.

I agree that you cannot depend on one traffic source, rule of thumb any third party site, try to make it less then 20% of traffic including Google.

    Hi Steven,

There is a BIG, BIG lesson here.

If you depend on ANY 3rd party site for ANY of your income, no matter who
or what it is, you CAN lose it.

This is why you MUST use every avenue of promotion at your disposal
because things CAN happen for no good reason at all.
That is a valid lesson. But there's an even bigger one, which I hope you are not missing.

Consider some of the many threads, comments and even reports (hint: Allen/War Room) that revolve around these 'keywords' - opinion, prolific, guru, real name, radar.

This is a lesson that some of us don't come across until later on in our journey, but I think it's more important than the one you mentioned.

I think you should also consider Kieron's post (#20) and consider how much you dislike the current events and therefore how much you would be willing to sacrifice in order to avoid them. It wouldn't necessarily mean the end of something, just the beginning of something new as well that could run alongside and most likely wouldn't be as vulnerable.

Just a suggestion, but rather than having 'use every avenue' as the lesson, a question for you - what are you currently building? Perhaps it would be wise to consider building something new and a little different, rather than building on top of something that already exists, but is having problems. That might be a hard (unfair) pill to swallow, but it might also be the cure and might be quite refreshing and liberating.

Roger, as usual, you come up with an excellent response. Yes, finding
avenues that few people know about but get enough exposure would be
      a great way to go.

It's also very time consuming. For you see, these unknown avenues will
require quite a bit of digging to find. They're not going to pop up at the
top of the SERPs for their related keywords. They'll probably be buried
on page 3 or even page 10. And then it will require extensive testing to
determine if they're even worth continuing with.

Yeah, it's a bitter pill, but you're dead right. This is the way to go. And
since I now have so much time on my hands, I might as well use it for
      something productive.

      @Jay

Yes, you're right. I shouldn't just let this go. And yes, it's a scary thing
to think that this could happen to somebody with 30 hours of videos.

I won't even tell you how many hours I had up there.

Somebody posted YouTube contact info in this thread.

I intend to use it and see what I can get accomplished.

I may have misread, but I took Roger's post to mean something other than what you seem to have inferred.

It appears to me that your business is largely based on the reputation you've instilled in your name. There's certainly nothing wrong with that and it's clearly served you well.

But you've made yourself an easy target for those seeking to harm you.

I think what Roger was suggesting (and if not, I'd be suggesting it anyway) is that you might also consider diversifying by having alternative "brands".

Many large and successful companies eventually, in effect, become their own competition by launching similar products to their market under different names. It gives their potential customers a wider choice and allows them to repeat several of their proven, successful marketing strategies. In that way, they're not re-inventing the wheel or trying to find different avenues.

And, from your point of view, you'd be a much harder target.

Yeah, it's quite possible I misread Roger's point. At 7 something in the
          morning, I'm not too bright.

Your idea, or Roger's, as the case may be, is an excellent one. In fact, I
am currently doing just that in a non IM niche with another Warrior.

Oh, and for the record, I have 4 online persona currently and looking to
          expand that.

So yeah, that's a great idea. But finding avenues that aren't so worn out

What Jay said. There's so much competition on YT, it would be
a pretty scary place if all somebody had to do was spam flags to

That was exactly what happened with my account.

A guy with proxies and/or some friends go on flagging normal, unique, original videos and YT's team just close your account - simple as that.

Problem is: IF they have this "flag" mechanism active THEY HAVE TO HAVE someone checking the god damn flags!!!!

Otherwise, this is as good as a donkey in a cinema.

Could well be, I was really trying to determine if Google had told you
this was the issue or whether it was more self determination.

When a video gets flagged it shows in your account presumably ?

            I've never had one flagged.

Presumably it must also be a % based thing.

For example , some videos have 5 million views.

Presumably 20 people isn't enough to make that flag viable.

This is shocking. Reminds of how many other sites deal with the 'flagging' method of moderation. Take Yahoo Answers for example - same thing. Too many flags, you're account is suspended and it doesn't matter how long you've been a member or whether you were breaking TOS or not.

They put too much trust in their visitors. That's the problem. It's laziness: they can't be assed moderating themselves so they have unqualified mystery guests do it for them.

I can understand this method on smaller sites (hell, I use it from time to time), but not on MONSTER sites like Yahoo and Youtube. They are turning over a pretty penny and shouldn't have ANY problems investing in this.

I've not hooked into the video traffic yet, but thanks for this warning Steve! Tell you what, think I'll be registering at a good 10 video sites.

I relied on a site once for my income. One day my account was unjustifiably deleted and I lost 80% of my earnings OVERNIGHT.

I keep saying this, I hope people drill it in their heads:

Steven, unfortunately, (and you already know this) but you have some pretty passionate haters out there. Many of the "WF sucks websites" seem to mention your name???

Two weeks ago I came across two sites started by individuals that have an angst against the WF and both seem to feature your name as the centerpiece of their fury. You could just tell, based on the tone and vibe of these sites that the owners were out for vengeance against the WF for being banned.

As far as getting a YouTube acct banned, there are some rather simple tactics to doing so and that is most likely what those (*curse words) did.

Having shared that, I'm glad that you're not giving up. Honestly, you may have to present a politely written methodically laid out case proving that you did not violate any copyright or DMCA rules and show where the heat actually came from.

wow... that really sucks that someone can so easily get someone's account closed down!

I would consider other video sites. At least from an organic search perspective, I get better results from most of the other sites.

Now imagine if the article directories had this same sort of mechanism in place. Or the other various web 2.0 sites like squidoo. A lot of people could have their business wiped out over night (it happened to me with ebay several years ago).

A while back I got one of my videos deleted and according to my research, they do a manual review of any flagged video before they delete it and give you a "violation".

My video was actually one of those video articles with one of the horrid computer voices so it probably should have been deleted. But, I can't imagine that any of Steven's would have been seen as spammy or in violation.

You are allowed 3 "violations" within a certain time period (I think 6 months??). After 6 months your "violation" goes away. But if you accumulate 2 more within that time period you get your account deleted. Needless to say, I removed all my spammy videos.

So, I don't think it's that easy to get someone banned due to the manual review part, how or why Steven's didn't pass that is a mystery though.

BTW - isn't against the TOS to have more than 1 account?

Actually, I did a couple of those Xtranormal videos just for fun. There
was nothing promotional about them. In fact, they were a total goof.

Id that's what got me banned than that's just totally insane. I wasn't
even promoting a product in them.

I think some of the people here might remember the one where I was
interviewing a couple of the characters. There was even a thread here
      about it.

And if those videos were a problem (I did them so long ago...In fact, it
was in September of last year) why first delete my account now? What,
all this time they have no problems with those videos and all of a sudden
      they're no good?

Why not just delete the two videos and leave the rest of my account with
its 50 plus videos of quality content alone?

Sorry, the whole thing is just bull sh*t.

I don't see where that would be an issue. I think Xtranormal even has instructions on their site for uploading your finished video to YouTube, so it seems to me to be unlikely to be a copyright violation or something like that.

You said your last video was posted 6 months ago. When was your last login? Is there any chance someone cracked your password and broke into your account? If so, they could have done any number of things to get you banned.

Dan, my last login was pretty recent. Certainly within the last 30 to 60
days. I don't really do a lot with the account anymore (one of the reasons
I'm not stewing right now) but I never imagined something like this would
happen. Had I known, I would have checked daily.

What I don't get is this. When you get flagged by somebody, doesn't a
notification get sent to your email? I mean what are we supposed to do,
check every single one of our videos each day to make sure there isn't
          a problem?

Know what? I need to just drop this because the more I think about it,
the more pissed off I'm getting.

I mean for crying out loud, I could understand if I spammed or did
something wrong...but sheeesh...I'm probably one of the cleanest YouTube

I would think so, but I don't know for certain.

Hopefully, you'll hear something from YouTube. If it's just a matter of enough people flagging your videos to get your account banned, that's a system that's ripe for abuse.

I have had two different friends lose their YT accounts virtually overnight. In both cases a competitor got his friends/affiliates to all start flagging the account and bam they were gone. No explanation no appeal if I remember. Both were in MLM type businesses. In the first case a puppet from the competitor admitted/bragged what they had done. He even posted a screen shot of the instructions they were given in another forum. Black hat at its worst!!!

speaking from experience yes if someone doesn't want you on youtube it only takes less than an hour to false flag and account and the file DMCA'a to have an account suspended. contacting youtube to have it restored only yields a 30% success ratio.
its a common tactic in vlog wars and happens when a person wants to eliminate competition. when it comes to youtube i always run multiple accounts. when i upload a video i always upload the same video to all my accounts (at different file sizes) i keep all of them on private except on the main account and when i get an account smoked i wait a few days to let my rival gloat and then i activate my "reserve account".

because its so easy to knock out an account at youtube i never use it to embed sales videos to my niche sites because once your account is suspended then your embeds are gone to.

I have given this a lot of thought.

Even if you are 100% ethical honest value creator, some people may not like you. They will create problems with you and if you are not submissive, they will become aggressive. May be they are just plain jealous.

People will not hurt or harm anyone in the real world just because they dislike someone because it is too complicated. Face to face... it can't happen.

But since the online world is too "up in the air". Anyone from Japan can hurt a person in Alaska.

In my bike blog, when I say a bike is not good, people who own that bike get angry. And I can't do it otherwise because my goal is to help people make a good buying decision, that's why 99% of them visit my blog in the first place.

Perhaps using an Alias name is a good idea but it is a bad idea anyway if you want to build a long term business.

What planet do you live on? Of course it can happen in the real world. Someone takes a dislike to you and trashes your car, or breaks into your storage locker, or goes out of their way to get you fired or make your life hell. It happens all the time. I've experienced it myself more than once. There's little accountability any more and unfortunately few people get nailed to the wall for that kind of thing.

Moving that kind of trash behavior to the online world is hardly surprising. Still stinks, but trashy people do trashy things and most of the time get away with it.

Unless you want to spend all your time and energy dealing with crap like this, you have to take precautions against it.

when people can just go and get their competitors account deleted ... what sounds like so easily too, there is a problem

vindictive people ... I hope what comes around really does go around

I've heard of the same kind of thing with adsense, click fraud to peoples pages from vindictive people

this makes it tough to become an authority if you ask me, cause you can't please everyone

yet you have to watch out, cause anyone can take steps to make your online life totally miserable

sorry to hear what happened to you steven

For my YouTube account to be yanked, somebody must have had it in
    for me.

Let this be warning to anybody who thinks that things like this CAN'T
happen to them even if they did absolutely NOTHING to cause it to
    happen.

    It can.
I talked to a guy not too long ago and his whole purpose in life was to flag anybody who had videos about making money from home or network marketing. He said he vowed to get every "scammer" kicked off of youtube.
There are people who HATE certain niches like work from home and cash gifting and are going to try their best to get you kicked off. In the event they do get you kicked off... I'd just start a new one. I use Amazon hosting now for my most important videos and youtube and all the free video sharing sites for my less important items.

Too bad to hear! My income depents for like 30% on Youtube, so thanks for the tip. Isn't there anyway to protect your account or something?

    Thanks.

the answer simply put is No. because of googles recent Lawsuits over copyright infringement they have a better safe than sorry mentality.
as i stated before with the exception of youtube partners any account can be permanently suspended in less than an hour
