How effective are .me domains?

Lets say these are my choices:

buy-widgets-online . com

or

buywidgetsonline . me

Which one is better and easier to rank? It's also important for visitors to be able to remember the domain and maybe come back every once in a while since it will be content rich.

I'm going after a pretty competitive keyword so the ONLY available extensions are .me and .cm (which is hella expensive), unless I want to insert annoying dashes and go with a .com.

Thanks!

When looking at it from a long term perspective you might be better off with another keyword with a .com extension. If you are planning on making your site big and popular for the next years to come, you need to put the customer in mind when choosing a name and extension.

The last thing you need is having all your traffic go to another domain just because they had a .com extension.

Personally, I'd take the .com whenever possible

This is quite interesting because it poses the question - will these different flavors of domain names have different impacts in the future.

Imagine google instantly started putting .me domains at the top when people searched for real names.

    "My Name Review"..

    turns up:

    myname.me
    mynamereview.me
    mynamehq.me

    etc etc

..and you happen to own the review site: mynamereview.me. It would be a FRENZY.

Who knows what google or other search engines will do?

You could be ahead of a trend.

In your case, no I wouldn't register a .me just to get keyword rich domain. It is often better to add a 'stop word', or any prefix or suffix:

    hq
    hub
    the
    Signature
    >> Seasoned Web Developer (CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Ruby) <<
Available for Fixed Fee Projects and Hourly ($40/hr)

I woulden't do get a .me because of a rich keyword.

However, based on how your domain looks, you might be on to a new trend

I think Mike Filsame has a .me. Idk why I said that just wanted to throw in there
