On Selling WP Websites

I'm going to start selling wp sites I create for niches.

Would selling such sites without a domain name or hosting work well or would a domain name help the sale?

If you are selling them as unique sites then definitely you should put it on a domain and sell the site with the domain.

You could also offer hosting, but i suggest you get a reseller account if you do. I've found that most people have their own hosting though and you might want to think twice before you get involved in hosting sites for people.

      Thanks cashcow,

I'm looking for the right direction to go to get maximum profits.

I thought if I put it on a domain name then let it age for a couple of months it would bring a higher price.

Or I could sell multiple copies of it without a domain for small change. Say, 10 x $30.00 would bring about as much as a single unique site. Of course, there is nothing that says that I can sell 10 where I'm sure I can sell a single unique site.

      I just haven't decided yet.

So what you're really wanting to sell is sell the means of a website and not an entire website itself? I think there could be a market for it.

I've seen people selling WP Databases before but usually for only a few bucks. Because, essentially, the content you're offering will not be unique it won't be as attractive to some people.

No, These are complete WordPress sites built for niches.

As a matter of fact, I just purchased a domain name and placed the site there. You can see it at: Organic Gardening

I'm just trying to figure out the most profitable way to sell such sites as this.

IMHO, the most profitable method with the least amount of customer support and hand holding would be to get traffic to the site and get it earning.

If you sell a brand new site with no earnings most of your buyers will be completely green so you are going to have to spend quite a good amount of time on support. Be prepared to install each site for the buyer and answer a bunch of questions. A smart marketer will have a backend that shows the buyer what he needs to do to get the site earning - sell your own products or affiliate products to them here.

Brand new sites don't always sell on the first try, so you need to figure in the fees for relisting etc...

If you sell them as PLR sites (selling 10 of them for $30) again be prepared for quite a bit of customer support. Most of the people buying these will have no idea how to set it up so be sure you have a good how to book. Before I made my series of videos for my PLR websites I was spending anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hours a day supporting my buyers. Really cuts into profits. Again, a smart marketer will have a backend that shows them how to make money with the sites - this will encourage future sales and you can also sell your own products or affiliate products.

The PLR site market is pretty saturated here - just take a look at the websites for sale section. Could take a while to sell all 10 of your copies unless you have extraordinary design skills or your name is SuiteJ.

The real money would be in the sites that are earning. The longer you hold it and the more hands off it is the more you can get. 10X earnings, 20X earnings maybe even more. Plus another upside is that the people who buy sites that are already earning are usually a little more seasoned and, therefore, do not require much support if any at all.

I've found that selling websites is not something to be entered into lightly - you need a good business plan because it can quickly turn into a job that you are getting paid $5 an hour for once you factor in your time and fees to sell your sites etc...

Yes, the more built into the package, the more value!

A domain name would be crucial. For example, I doubt I would buy a site not on its own domain, but that maybe just me!

Also, other features such as traffic or proof on income can be beneficial. Even holding onto the site for a little and having it indexed and ranked can also add value!

Like Cash Cow said ... the most profitable way to sell a site is to get traffic and revenue and the PLR Sites are pretty saturated here on WF. That doesn't mean that you can't distinguish yourself and do it, but it won't be easy.

Let it age and get some Adsense revenue or product revenue and flip it on Flippa for much bigger profits. I sell the PLR but I have built this up for over a year and have a nice list to sell to as well as listing them.

In my eyes, a domain name would be the most crucial part of a successful site. So, without the domain, it is really worthless to buy such a site.

I'm guessing you don't understand PLR sites. For $27-$37 you get a complete niche blog ready to go. You will need to buy the domain yourself and install the blog and start posting your own content, but it's a cheap and fast way to get into a niche, especially if you're not that good at building a site yourself.

I would always advocate studying the sellers that do this successfully.

Take a look at these sellers (just two examples, not necessarily the most successful sellers in this niche)

    http://www.flipfilter.com/statistics...stopherJCooney

(Seems to sell many low value niche blogs most focused on green or organic topics) and

    http://www.flipfilter.com/statistics...sername=djbory

(Higher price tags mostly focused around natural and organic affiliate treatments, I believe from markethealth.com)

There a hundred and one ways of selling a site, but the most successful sellers seem to have a core strategy and stick to that. Alternatively, you can look at sites specifically in your niche (http://www.flipfilter.com/statistics-sale-price.php - enter 'garden' in the text filter) and examine what the top selling sites did to achieve their sale price.

    Hope this helps

    Justin
