Twitter Advice - Please Help.

I'm new to twitter & I'm following a high profile marketer who seems to be tweeting (on average) once every 5 minutes 24/7 (nearly 300 tweets a day!), 365 days a year! How is this done? It's makes my half a dozen tweets a day look pathetic. Do you really need to tweet every 5 minutes to make twitter work for you (e.g drive traffic to your website)? Any tips / advice greatly appreciated - Thank you... David

That seems excessive to me. Sounds like this marketer is going for quantity over quality...

I drive decent traffic from Twitter and I don't send out more than 3 tweets a day. I certainly don't tweet just to do it. I only tweet when I have something to say or something cool to share. Imagine that!

Seems like to me this guy is using a feed to post on twitter you can signup for a free account at twitterfeed.com : feed your blog to twitter this allows you to take a feed from whatever site you want and have it post to twitter automatically.

      hope this helps

I read in some fancy report once that the ideal amount of tweets are 3 per hour. On the other hand, I'd say that your half a dozen per day is perfect and that guy is crazy and overtweeting.

The point here is QUALITY and not QUANTITY.
Excessive tweeting could even be considered to be spammy and people might just start unfollowing you and that is something you wouldn't like.

Just tweet and deliver quality to your followers instead of overtweeting the same old this again & again...

  • I've read heaps of reports and advice saying to NOT over-tweet...it is viewed as spam and people WILL unfollow you!

I tried this on an old account I used when Twitter first started up and hey presto, people were unfollowing me all over the place!

It sounds like he is probably using an automated posting service or feed. I definitely wouldn't recommend tweeting every 5 minutes...people will think you are annoying and unfollow you eventually...regardless if you are a "guru" or not lol

It's he who is pathetic really. Its called SPATTER and is useless garble that some IMers think adds value to social media.

If you have someone who is tweeting constantly you will block them because they'll fill up your twitter page with junk pushing out the genuine users you're interested in following.

A lot of well known marketers are pushing 3-5 tweets every half an hour to an hour. All they do is try to sell... it gets old. I don't visit sites that do that. I prefer real interaction. Hence why Facebook is still a firm favourite with people because they can interact with friends and family.

Please don't even consider walking in his footsteps. Take quality over quantity - your followers will only tolerate "so much" before they start to "bulk unfollow" you. If I get more than 20 tweets a day from 1 person (and it is still a lot) or more than 5 tweets in a row from someone - I immediately unfollow them. Buildup your twitter account slowly with good quality followers and add value to your own tweets.

Twitter works best to build up connections than to use it to sell your stuff.

A tip - I see nowadays people recommend other people to follow - like they would say - worthy tweeple to follow on twitter with their twitternames
