How do you create a forum?

I have an idea for a new forum. But how to get visitors and the first couple of hundred posts to the forum? It seems to be such a tough task. Or not? Can anyone give some advice? Thanks.

You are right. It is very hard. I've tried and failed a few times. Spammers are a constant nuisance so you need good moderators.

I'd recommend hiring a couple of people in the Philippines to post replies and moderate posts. Once you get to critical mass and the forum takes off you will be able to promote normal members to Mods. Most see it as a privelege so you dont need to pay them. Something like giving mods free links, or an enhanced profile, is often enough to reward them.

You are right. Getting the first visitors and posts is always the hardest part. No one wants to use a forum that looks empty. So the way I always do it is to give the forum a bit of a kick along just to get things going.

There are a few different companies that offer the forum posting service however the only one I have tried myself and recommend is Forum Posting Service, Paid Forum Builder and Advertising - ContentCurrent.com

It worked great for me and definitely got my forum active.
