Are specialized Premium Press wordpress templates, like Directory Press etc. the best available?

I usually recommend Atahualpa - as it's highly customisable.

But for once - I'm going to suggest something else!!!

Last week I purchased Classipress Classified Ads Software | ClassiPress

It's been great. It was easy to set up and it was easy to make it do what I wanted. They also have a forum - which I used once and received the solution within hours.

Thanks for reponding! So are you saying that Atahualpa can simply be fully customized, with the exact same features as the Premium Press directory script I posted? If you can review the overall details and features in that link and clarify if it's possible, that would be greatly appreciated!

I've been considering themes like Atahualpa, that I've read about on the warrior forum including your WSO...

but I didn't think it would ever be possible! Atleast not for your average non-wordpress techi...

I noticed on your customer feedback here that you quoted a user that hasn't used our script since about 2006. Admittedly, back then we still had a long way to go toward creating a script that as you state is probably the most widely used (today).

You might want to consider also including reviews by more current customers, such as this one or this one.

  We purchased this product.
  Would I do it again? No.
  It does quite a bit, and is in my opinion, better than the one's we tried before it. It does work within WordPress, which is nice. But we are now back out looking for other offerings. We just can't spend any more time dittling with it. That's not what we bought it for. I found the documentation to be whoa-fully lacking, which I believe left us depending on a user forums support that added more delays to getting our directory up and running.
  
  We're not tied to WordPress, having years of experience with it, Joomla, and web installations. So if there are other options that live up to their claims and we can simply install them according to the instructions and they 'just work', we'd like to hear about them.

  Yes, you are quite angry at the creator of the product, but your post seems more out of anger, rather then facts and figures.

I use DirectoryPress and I highly recommend it. You definitely need to watch the training videos though. But honestly, it's been awesome.

I am using it for some local businesses in my area and on yahoo we're already coming up $10 for the city name pizza.

If you google around, there's always coupons out there too that take off 10-20%.

As mentioned in a prior post the Atahualpa WordPress theme can be a good one to start with. I work with a local web design and WordPress developer and most of their projects are built upon the Atahualpa theme. It certainly should be a candidate for consideration.

Also, include a basic amount of plugins for SEO, site backup, site map submitting, security, and even a plugin to speed up your site caching for best results.

After trying to build an ecommerce site with almost all of the popular shopping carts out there, ShopperPress is the only one that I found actually did what is said it could without any glitches or complications. Mark and his team also offer fantastic support, with both tutorials and support tickets. I haven't used the other themes, but I am sure the experience would be the same and if I ever have a need to it is definitely worth it - my time is worth alot more than the very reasonable one-off price - and it includes everything you need - watch out for open source or free solutions that cost you a fortune in addons or force you to host with a certain provider.

I couldn't agree more. People buy our software because they know they will receive a certain level of support not found on open source software that I might add also tends to have more security fixes needed. Modded wordpress can especially be notorious for security problems. Meanwhile, we have NEVER had any significant security issue with phpLD, and but have fixed a number of wordpress sites that did before they switched to us.

I purchased DirectoryPress and it is not as easy as they describe. Some of their tutorials are based on other themes they sell. I spent two days trying and testing the theme and gave up. When I asked for refund, they told me they have "strict no refund policy". Now I understand why. Be aware when you think about buying any theme from them.

Sounds like you were not getting much support. The main thing we require at phpLD is the opportunity for us to help you. Many times confusion or problems can be solved, and more often than not, the problem was small and easily solved.
