I just purchased a domain with hostgator and I want to know how to build a list using WordPress or joomla. Can you guys point me to the right direction I'm thinking of using
"Feedburner" but if I still use Feedburner then what's the use of buying a domain.

Also one more question is that I think that later on my site will be a community-based website so what platform should I install which will help me in the future also so kindly give me some advice guys....

    Hi

I don't have much experience with this, but I do know that I seen a WSO for a WP plug-in that will allow you to collect leads.

Maybe you can search the WSO forum and find a good tool for WP.

    Garima,

Irrespective of what type of site you want to run now or in the future, whether it is a personal, business or community-based site or portal, I think Joomla would be the best option to go with. You will find a lot of "scripts" to install on and use on your (community-based, etc) websites. Visit Joomla.org to download the installation package.

There is also a component on Joomla! Extensions Directory called "AcaJoom" that will help you build a mailing list and a newsletter.

    I hope this helps.

Please, do let me know if you need further help.

Use Joomla for sure. As you mentioned that you could upgrade to community website. Hence, Joomla allows you to easily build your community website, complete with forums, blogs, articles etc.
Moreover, building a list is easy. use the Joomla component: ajacoom , or letterman(its free).
        Enjoy
