Could someone give me the quick version of Twitter etiquette?

I've had a twitter account for a long time, but just started a new one using my actual name and more with the notion of leveraging it for networking and marketing. I'm just wondering if there are a few 'rules of the road' so I don't step on anyone's toes. I know there are a few different products, WSOs, etc. I'm not there yet. I just want the top line, the executive summary.

Am I supposed to follow most people that follow me? And how do you ever deal with a stream if you're following 1000 people like I see some of you are? Anything I should be sure not to do? etc.

Thanks so much for your input.

    Hi guys,

I only have around 700 following me but they're joining every day and here's what I've seen:

You don't HAVE to follow everyone who follows you - the messages can come thick and fast so you don't want to anyway.

Don't make every post a product/affiliate link or your followers will quickly stop following.

Look around and find people that are into the same things as you and build relationships - the follows come on their own when someone you message replies and their followers see those replies.

Use a service like Schedule Future-Dated Twitter Tweets TweetLater.com

This service allows you to do 3 things:

    1. Automatically respond to your followers with a personal message
    2. Automatically "follow" your "followers"
    3. Submit a Twitter message to be published at a later time

Setup a unique message that will go to your new followers - I'm still testing what works best, so far it's sending them a link to a free gift.

Also setup a 'thank my followers' digest.

Then just regularly check out the people following others in your niche and follow them. You'll find it easy to build your list of followers - just don't treat them like an email list and spam them with promotions and you can make good money and make new friends.

You can start by following me Twitter / AndyHenry

There are some really cool people following me and that I follow, so check them out.

I just wrote a warrior blog on Twitter.
Last week I mentioned an interview I did with Fox news and a fellow twitterer thats a reporter in NV read it and also wants to do a story.
So Twitter can promote your business.
I only had 16 followers last week but now I have 110 in about 6 days.

I don't spam or even twit any links. Just comment and people seem to be interested so far.

Yeah, I only had 300 a week ago and then I decided to get more active and gained 400 in the last week without much effort.

I use tweet my blog which automatically updates on twitter every time I make a new post. This has also brought a lot of twitter traffic to my blog.
