Would love help with Bookmarking and RSS

Hello,

I am a newbie who has read a lot through these great forums. Essentially, I have set up a blog on which I write articles in order to promote an affiliate product. The main page has a review.

The articles are posted to my site, with the plan to then bookmark them, submit them to RSS feeds and then to article directories. I have a number of questions.

1) Do bookmarking sites like Digg, Clipmark, Reddit etc provide backlinks? If so, how long do they last...in other words are all postings to these sites archived or do they eventually delete? What strategies should I use with bookmarks...so far I have just posted my website name and article information as teasers whenever I have a new article.

If they do not provide backlinks then is the main point of these sites to drive immediate traffic? Can they actually also provide long term traffic?

2) How do I submit my articles to RSS feeds? Do I submit my website to the feeds or the articles the way I do for a directory? What RSS submission sites should I use and how often do I submit? Every article or do the RSS sites already automatically get updated each time I post to my blog?

3) How do I ping my blog posts to get the notice out that I have a new post on my blog? (wordpress self hosted). Is this done by wordpress automatically? I have the cbnet Ping Optimizer plugin so I think that does it.

4) When should I submit my articles to Hubpages, wordpress.com, blogger.com, squidoo etc in this whole process? Keep in mind I will submit a slightly spun versions for each using The Best Spinner with around 30% or so unique content (although I know it's not necessary- just future proofing in case the duplicate content myth turns into reality one day).

Thanks in advance,

Roy

they are nofollow links - no good for seo. And while they will get you indexed by yahoo, google will totally ignore them.

websites PROVIDE feeds - you are not submitting to feeds, but rather submitting your feeds to sites.

submit them whenever you have an update.

wordpress does this on it's own.. and it's all that you need to do get your posts indexed.

Thanks! What is the point of them then? Just to drive traffic? Can they drive long term traffic or is it only short term when they are at the top of new posts?

Also, how do I go about submitting my feeds to site? Thanks again!

As far as submitting feeds to sites i.e. RSS aggregators, these are the sites I submit to:

          Feedagg.com
          Feedage.com
          Feedest.com
Jumptags.com(Make Sure You Select RSS Feed)
          MillionRSS.com
          5z5.com
          Feedburner.com

There are countless others, but these are the ones that give best results for me, and sometimes 1st page rankings for target keywords.

Quick question for you. I am submitting to these sites and it is great...very easy. I just want to know if I should be doing the following that the sites recommend:

RSS Feed Tracking: Place the following subscription buttons on your web site and use Feedage to track how often your RSS Feed is subscribed to.

They each seem to have this option. Should I put them on my site?

some people believe the myth that google only pretends to honor the nofollow, others think they follow them but do not use them in calculating pr (ie, good for indexing), while others believe that still count a little. All wishfull thinking really. They are good for traffic - if they happen to be something of interest to the sorts of people who actually actively use the bookmark sites.

it depends if that's of interest to you. I use rss sites for the links, traffic, and to get googlebot's attention - but I don't really count on getting actual subscribers.

I personally don't do any of that -- have done it sometimes -- I don't see too much of a difference

I personally use pingler.com -- it pings to over 90 sites.

For wordpress, I usually go into the "Writing" section under "Settings," and change the pinglist to the file I attached here -- it is essentially the same as pingler's list

I would also add the use of Pingoat as another good pinging service. Also, the Share This plugin from Wordpress will allow you or your readers to be able to submit and share your every new post to numerous web 2.0 networks so you don't sweat a lot doing it all manually.

      WordPress › ShareThis WordPress Plugins

      I hope this helps.

You can do that, but with Hubpages, when your hub score higher than 75, you hub link is do follow. You may do more work to promote that hub also . And they check very careful the duplicate content, so better you need write it by yourself.

One of the reasons why one should submit to bookmarking sites is to get some traffic and get quickly indexed by search engines like google. In fact, bots keep frequenting high traffic sites like jumptags, stumbleupon, digg for example to get new links.

Some bookmarking sites offer dofollow links and you can try socialposter.com to post your links to many bookmarking sites.
