I don't think that a cheap writer, and a bad one go hand in hand. It's all about finding the proper place to look. Granted you will always take a bigger risk, but that is the price you pay for hiring a cheaper writer.

I do 3 kinds of work. Cheap, Good, & Fast. You can only ever have 2 of them.

Or something like that.

Hmmm...cheap and good rarely go hand in hand, as you might find if your only criteria for hiring a writer is cost. You may get lucky, but it's a long shot.

I'm baffled by a lot of the replies in this thread...must be freelancers themselves.

I've had ebooks researched, written, and designed for an avg of 200-250. These aren't short, either. Were talking over 100 pages without much white space. Hooray for Filipino English teachers.

Well we shouldn't be quick to hump on the gun, cheap is all relative to the individual. So op, what do you consider cheap? Also, if you can't afford to outsource your content generation, why can't you manage your time and do it yourself?

I have had good results hiring writers on eLance, you just have to spend some time talking to the different freelancers and reading reviews... don't just hire the first bidder on your project.

As you can see, you're not very likely to find an excellent writer who is also cheap

However, (depending on your definition of "ebook" and "cheap") you can find some good writers in the Warriors for Hire section, on forums where writers hang out (like Wahm.com in the writing section), on bidding sites, etc.

I'm all about paying (and receiving) fair prices for writing. But you might get lucky with a writer just starting out who needs to build a reputation (I was very cheap when I started out!). However, it's probably going to cost you a lot to go through a dozen duds before you find that great, cheap writer.

I think you have to pay with fair enaugh for ebook...sometime if you pay with "cheap" than you get poor ebook...but not at all...just my opinion...

Good doesn't come cheap. If you want to sell a good ebook, you have to spend on it. If you check out the forum, you'll find some warriors getting ripped of because of quality and I'm sure you wouldn't want that. Or else you'll be spending definitely more than "cheap".
