If you can avoid free autoresponders, avoid them and get a good one through either getresponse, aweber, icontact etc... These are the good ones out there.

Free autoresponders have ads on your messages that are distracting. People start reading them and click on the ads and forget your email.

Another thing is that they're limited in what you can do with them and how many subscribers they can hold.

I believe Mailchimp is free for the first 500 subscribers.... that should get you off to a good start!

The "free autoresponder" topic comes up on a regular basis here, and the answer is always the same:

An autoresponder is an essential business tool for an Internet Marketer. And while we all want to save money and are often working on a shoestring budget this is the one area that you do not want to compromise on.

Free autoresponders often suffer from non delivery problems, and hosting your own autoresponder can be even worse. Your mail can end up getting trapped by spam filters and will not reach its destination.

Even worse, when you finally realize that the free autoresponder was a bad idea you will find that you can't just import your list into a new account on a legitimate service like AWeber or GetResponse - you will have to get your subscribers to resubscribe.

If you are at all serious about this business you will avoid free autoresponders and free hosting. AWeber goes for 19 dollars a month, its reliable and comes loaded with features. If your Internet business isn't worth an investment of 63 cents a day then you really aren't serious about it.

Not trying to be harsh but thats the reality.

    All the best

    Bill

Excellent points and Bill hits the nail right on the head.

I started with a free autoresponder and it was a complete waste of time. When you get up to speed and are getting lots of opt-ins and making sales and mailing out to your list regularly you'll go to switch to a decent paid service like the ones mentioned and you'll discover this one harsh reality...

Moving people from one AR to another is NO FUN AT ALL!

You can't just add them to the new AR service and keep mailing. You can add their names but they will have to opt-in or double opt-in again. Many will leave or just not bother.

It is a real good way to clean the duds out of your list though :-)

I knew this was going to be an uphill battle when I started List Wire, but it looks like it's going to take a lot more effort to break through the "free autoresponders suck" stigma that has been so rightfully deserved until recently ...

This was an issue with all of the free autoresponders before, and I agree 100% on the hosting your own autoresponder point ... but paid autoresponder service can end up in the spam folder just as easily as any other as the main reason for filter trips these days isn't a bad IP range, it's content related ... and, the autoresponder has nothing to do with the content.

What I mean is, assuming that the IP ranges aren't blacklisted ( and none of the reputable services are, including ListWire ), then the deciding factor is most often the content of your message.

People used to say that hosting a video on a free site was a bad idea, then came YouTube, and that blogging on a free site was unreliable ... then came services like Blogger.

There are hundreds of free services that people rely on to build their businesses today, and pretty soon, autoresponders will join that mix if I have anything to say about it ... and, I've been around a while.

I used to have that very same opinion, but I'm Bill, I'm going to assume you've never been to an offline event and spoken, in person, to people desperate to make some money online ...

This might sound sexist, but there are many housewives (and husbands too ) out there who aren't "allowed" by their spouses to spend any money online ... And, in some cases that is sexist, in others, the spouse is fed up with their significant other spending so much money and getting nothing in return.

In other cases, they simply can't afford another $20 a month in expenses ... and, $20 a month is now on the VERY LOW end of the autoresponder spectrum. Aweber and GetResponse are both tiered with their pricing, and once you hit 501 subscribers, you're looking at $30 a month, then at 2,501 subscriber it's $50 a month ... or $600 a year.

Those who know me well know I was one of the harshest guys out there when it came to getting serious about starting an online business the "right" way ... but after seeing so many people struggling, with my very own eyes, I've had a change of heart.

If you can't afford an autoresponder right now, don't let that stop you ... DO SOMETHING! And if doing something means using a free autoresponder, that's better than what 99% of people are doing right now.

I'd be willing to bet that if we took a WF pole, at least 50% of members here don't have an autoresponder ... and, 100% could, and for free, if they just signed up.

We've all heard "build a list" over, and over, and over ... but so few actually do it. The barrier is now gone, it's time for people to just start doing it.

And, if anyone independent wants to verify our delivery rates vs any other provider, we're more than up for the challenge ...

As someone mentioned previously mail chimp offers you free up to 500 subscribers. They are a reputable company with a lot of big clients however they do not accept affiliate marketing thus you are not allowed to use affiliate links.

It's great if you're starting off however you might run into some profit issues later if you don't provide any affiliate offers but if you intend to just sell your own product that might be a good start.

Additionally you can then transfer your list to aweber. I've checked it out with them and they say that they collect all the information required for list trasnfer to services like aweber however if I'm not wrong you have to reconfirm your list when you transfer it to aweber which might affect your # of subscribers.

Additionally Personally imo I would not go with totally free services there's simply no way they can survive thus it'd probably be a scam or their quality control and customer service would be ridiculous. I personally prefer good customer service and a sense of security thus I know my information is safe and won't be tempered with as well I can get help whenever I need it instead of waiting for months or weeks.

If you're looking to go cheap and looking to pay via paypal. I recently just switched to imnica mail. So far it's pretty good. Richelo is a reputable member of this forum.

However aweber is the most known and I believe most used email marketing and auto responder. Their service is amazing as well as I've used them previously before switching to imnica mail.

    All the Best,
    Benjamin

    I agree with everyone else.

The power REALLY is in the list. If you build an effective list, the $20 a month for Aweber Autoresponder will get paid off easily.

Aweber has a $1 first month, so I would recommend you try that. Way back when, I paid $1 for a month then decided I wasn't going the list route anymore, so I cancelled without a problem. I'd recommend going the $1 route and see how much better that is than a paid for autoresponder.

I understand if your strapped for cash but get a paid one such as getresponse or aweber they are great. Generally the free ones just don't provide the tools you need to make a great piece of software

I would have to go with Dave.

I have used aweber for quite a long time, but just out of curiosity, i did try list wire and the service is by far the greatest i have seen out of all the free auto responders out there.

I have a pretty big list on listwire and i am pleased with the deliverability rate.

The site is very simplistic and easy to use and doesn't give a whole lot of options but for the free price tag, you can't beat the response rate on this service.

Get a paid autoresponder they are expensive because they have really great delivery rates and that's what counts.

You must be the guy on the video! Cool!

So once again, if I purchase double opt in email lists, Listwire will allow me to import them because Icontact and Constant Contact won't let me do that.

True. When it comes to getting serious in Internet Marketing world, you shouldn't pay too much attention to "free" products since most of them are also limited when it comes to quality service which you don't want to expect when you're already building your brand.

Although on one bright side, you could actually use MailChimp as a "test" tool to catering your first subscribers and then after creating the value from there, you actually have to evolve to much high-end service when it comes to autoresponders like what they've said (e.g. Aweber, GetResponse, etc).

    I hope this helps.

You definitely need to pay for an autoresponder, e.g. AWeber.

You need to work with a good company to make sure that your auto responder messages get through. If you don't use a auto responder like Awebber your E-mail message can be marked as SPAM.

Wow, you don't really believe this, do you?

Aweber must be doing a better job in their marketing than I thought. The fact of the matter is, there are more than 100 reputable autoresponder services out there that can get your email delivered just fine ... many are less expensive than Aweber, many are more expensive.

      And, some are even free.

Gary, I tried Listwire. When I tested it, I clicked the confirmation link in the e-mail and I was redirected to a page with some make money online offers. I actually found it hard to find my way back to my site from there (I was putting myself in my subscriber's shoes). So I took the Listwire subscription box off my site and stopped using it.

Did I do something wrong? Is there a way to redirect that confirmation link straight back to my site instead?
