I've been working on IM for a little over a year now. I've been in and out of a lot of programs and spent a ton of money. I never seem to get through a course and have it implemented to where I start making money. It just seems a bit overwhelming at times.

My sense is this happens to a lot of people. I'm REALLY interested in how you guys feel about this and how you deal with it - if at all - and why.

I created a really small survey to collect some stats - I'm a numbers guy. And I was hoping you could take 5 mins and offer some feedback.

I'll be glad to share the results. Thanks in advance.

Well it seems like you have the "hobby" mentality. You probably enjoy learning so you continue to buy course after course.

Or maybe you have the "magic button" mentality where you're looking for that simple solution to making money.

Or maybe you think you have to learn everything before you get started.

I can go on and on... everyone is different, but there comes a point in time where you have to develop the appropriate business mentality. You are online because you want to make money. Either get someone to do the tasks for you or do them yourself!

My motivation was when I had my first sales coming in... after that I was hooked!

I just started affiliate marketing recently and, like Adam, I was hooked after my first sale. I'm kind of addicted to it now and am determined to make big $$$ doing it.

A good read I think for anyone looking to make money doing anything is Poor Richard's Almanack. It's cheap on Amazon.com. It will give you the values that you need to succeed at anything in life, I think.

I am friggin' spectacular! This business has so many avenues and paths to take I don't think anyone who ever tried their hand didn't go through the exact phase you mention, whether they became successful or not. Stick in it and analyze your weaknesses, you probably know what you need to do so figure out where you are lacking and focus on improving it.

If its motivation, probably best to find it within yourself instead of saying "that first sale will get me going." Set yourself up some daily rituals and start conditioning yourself to be more productive, eventually you will be a super duper mega internet marketing machine!!

A word to the wise -

if you are going to ask for help - don't put an opt-in on your survey.

I took the survey, opt in was optional and not required. No big deal.

The big problem for you is you haven't taken action. Actually I too have gone through a lot of courses myself in the Internet Marketing industry but after actually "choosing" what's best to model of and start to take action and make money, I've decided that I have to stick on that one method I learned and then start and continue the processes from there. I'm a proud student of Yaro Starak's Membership Site Mastermind and after couple of months staying in his course, I've actually launched Mass Outsource Mastermind while I also got my virtual team in place.

It's really kind of exhausting a bit during the first ever launch but it's totally fun and I've gained more credit there since what I give out to my students are the systems I have in place when I'm dealing with my virtual team. Easily enough, I've created tutorials from what I've learned from the hiring process, to the shortlisting process and to training them.

I hope this gives you an inspiration too.

    Cheers.

You need to take this as a serious business and not a hobby. Stick to one method and hammer it until you start seeing results, then crank it up. That's when you can branch out and learn a new method and hammer that one. After awhile, you'll be generating income from different avenues and reaping the benefits of your hard work.

i run few affiliate programs which based on refferal commsions. everyday i get lots of sign-ups from people who claim to be professional marketer and they cant make even one cent online.....

Take some time out everyday and read some really good Success oriented types of books. They'll help pump you up and get you thinking success all day long.

    My personal favorites:

    Secret Of The Millionaire Mind
    The Magic Of Thinking Big

and if you haven't alreadyseen the movie by Will Smith - The Pursuit Of Happyness I highly recommend it. It was very inspirational and got me really thinking.

Our self-defeating habits are fueled by some glitch in the thought department......

I stand corrected - the optin was optional.

I think there is a problem when you want to "learn" but also want to "outsource" it all. With the exception of graphic design and programming, I strongly feel you must know how to do a task well yourself before you can outsource it properly.

Outsourcing is great once your business is running to the point where you don't have time to do some of the routine content writing, etc. However, you can't use outsourcing to replace learning a process yourself and expect great results.

If a product outlines steps - why wouldn't you follow the steps? Even if you copy/paste one step per page and work on that until you understand it and get it done? Then move on to the next step on the next page.

All of the little bits of work that sound hard when you start out - aren't really hard once you get into doing them. A program that has a blueprint of steps to follow is telling you "work on this first and then this and then do this work" - a ten 10 step method may take a month to get through if you are new.

If you expect to be able to run through the steps of a method and collect money you'll be disappointed every time. If you stop each time you don't understand a step and either skip it or move to a new product/program, you'll lose. I know we say this same thing a lot - but some new marketers just aren't getting it.

If you don't understand a "step" - go off and google it and learn what it means and how to do it. Then go back and continue. The hard part is making yourself stick to one thing until you see it through - but it's the only method that "works".

Above all - focus on products/methods that teach building a business instead of "get $XXXX in XX days".

        This is spot on! ^

If you are just starting out, pick an area and focus on it until you get success, and then work out how much time you are putting in for that success.

If you are putting more time in then makes sense move onto the next area.

Very basic i know, but you get what i mean right?

Another think like Kay mentions above it is vital to make sure that you have at least a basic grasp of everything you outsource.

That said don't make it harder then it needs be.

I remember an email from Willie Crawford years ago and it stuck with me.

He said something like "Find out what people want and give it to them" - the better you understand that the more money you will make!
