Curious to know something about you offline business marketers.

Just wondering what has been your best approach to finding new business in the offline business consulting and marketing field.

I have had great success with hosting free seminars on how to improve your business using the internet. It gets a lot of business owners in the seats for the free information. Once they see it's value and how much work it takes, they are pretty easy to convert.

I have some colleagues that swear by the cold calling approach.

What's your best method to get new customers?

In person presentations are always the best if your confident on the subject (which you should be)

It's really a numbers game you could quickly send out a ton of emails and get a hand full of responses or you could spend the same amount of time to call a few businesses and get the same amount of response.

The main thing is not to hard sell, but to educate the business owner

Just striking up a conversation with businesses I frequent has been the most successful.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I use the same tactics I sell to my customers.

Autoresponder with a lots of good information to help them, get their business found on the internet and then it has built in calls to action so they ring me.

A website with good content about my services and good SEO.

Small adds in local papers selling the Autoresponder. I sell the autoresponder series for a small price to weed out the tire kickers.

    Lots of referrals.

Some work at home mums who sell the autoresponder.

    Pretty simple really.

Going out and talking to clients initially is a pain and takes a lot of time so educate them a bit first so when they contact you they have some idea of what they want.

It is also great because you have educated with online communications so quite often never actually have to go to their office unless a big contract.

Quentin - I really like your approach, as it's congruent with what we claim to be able to do for our clients..

do they just coldcall local businesses, directing them to your site? Any experiences you'd like to share? I've been thinking long and hard about this, as I did a test recently and got 30% of the businesses I called to sign up for a free trial of a web-based service I provide to the businesses in this particular niche. Now I'm thinking of lining up a bunch of work from home folks to make the calls for me.

The best money I ever spent in this area was the book "Get Clients Now!". Anybody in the consulting or service business that doesn't have this book is seriously missing out.

I run an offline niche membership site. It runs wpmu and the businesses have a blog within my site.

They pay an annual membership fee and I do all the work for them.

The first contact is a phone call to setup and appointment for a 'chat' - which almost never gets refused. From there I stop by for the 'chat', explain what the features and benefits are of the site, the price and the discount. My conversion rate is over 90%.

    cheers

Surprisingly, my cold emails work pretty well for me.
But I do spend a considerable amount of time researching before emailing.
