[Solved] Best places to hang up POSTERS/FLYERS to advertise your business? The library?

Hi all,

I was just wondering what people have done in terms of offline promotion for promoting their business by putting up posters and/or flyers, and if so, where you've found are generally good or acceptable places to put them?

I was thinking the library however i'm not sure if it is legal as they are designed as "Community notice boards" rather than a place for people to advertise their business :confused:

Any advice would be appreciated

        I love urinal flyers... haha. they always have hot women, singles dating, adverntures2000 and Kart racing flyers at the bathrooms I frequent.

          Those ads always interested me the most. I remember promotions where girls get to go free if wearing a bikini'

          Do guys really go to those kinda places to look at women? The thought just seems really odd to me, "man, I really wanna look at some cute girls... I should go to the kart racing place..."

    I guess you can insert your flyers inside books that your target audience would read. Dog training flyers inside pet books. How to earn passive income flyers inside Rich Dad Poor Dad.

    BTW, if you find a book that already has a flyer in it, move on to the next book. Respect the person that got there before you did.

      yes! lets liter up someones store with garbage. Great idea!

      How about tagging up your neighbors car too with your hop link so he gets the point you want him to buy thru ur aff. link. I would suggest that old one on how to run your car on water.

    As for our niche, the one I'd be looking to promote is High Definition Wireless Surveillance cameras as it gives us a chance to show a visual sample of how much better the quality is than regular analogue surveillance. I've been swaying back and forth about the idea of putting flyers/business cards inside library books; it might work, but it just seems so "trashy", I'm not sure whether it would help or hurt the business image

      I'm pretty sure that people searching for high tech gadgets aren't researching by going to the library and reading five year old books. Your demographic is online. Save the fliers for your next yard sale.

        I understand the best way to reach the appropriate audience is "online", but honestly it is a bit played out. You can only do so much SEO, Youtube, direct E-mail marketing etc etc and then have to basically sit back and hope for a reaction.

        Plus I figure that most of the slightly older people in middle-upper management are still prone to paying attention to offline marketing techniques as they weren't raised on computers like most of the rest of us.

          If you want to reach middle-upper management with your offline advertising, do you really think that fliers at a library will do the trick?

          AdWords is still the king if you are selling tangible products. If you are adamant on offline advertising, then buy some ad space in a relevant magazine.

            Yeah, I've been doing research on advertising in a specific trade magazine targeted specifically at Management/Decision makers in the resort and accommodation industry, would work out to approximately $0.02 per view, now I just need to convince management that it's worth the investment

      For HD surveillance cameras I would try local businesses like liquor stores and drug stores, places that get frequent shoplifters. I would ask to put some of my flyers or cards either at the counter or somewhere else nice, maybe even a window. And offer a discount to the store owner for letting me.

      Try the walls outside your local P0rn store.

      Libraries would be a bad idea, but if its allowed and free, who not put it on a notice board. People that would buy that stuff have money to burn and would be more likely to go to a book store than a library in my opinion, but cameras are video related, and not book related so it just doesn't make much sense.

      It might be more practical to have a website and a Google adwords campaign.

      Putting your link in a signature here would likely be more effective than the library.

        I also concur. Also, be sure you tend to post in forums that have activity (people currently viewing). Even better, if you can ever see a thread's specific view count and it's got a good amount of people, consider posting worthwhile content there too as you may get more click-thrus.

      Are these cameras someone would set up to monitor their own yards? Block clubs and home owner's associations. You might do a tad of barter with home and lawn service businesses - construction companies, realtors.

      Oh yeah - don't forget the local Starbucks. Status quos coffee drinkers are big on showy.

    Yea the Library. sell ebooks. lol

    For the time, money, gas, etc. to spend spreading your flyers all over the town you'd be better off spreading butter on bread. Flyers are for concerts, yard sales and things of that nature. You place a flyer about internet business anywhere and I'll bet someone will take it down to either bring it home for reference (1 person) and do nothing with it or tear it down because they think its another scam.

    If you want to do offline business you've got to go direct to the source which is the company's front door.

    High Definition Wireless Surveillance cameras?. Ok now we're talking. Here's the #1 people you should be talking to ... Real Estate Agents, Local Contractors, etc.

    I tried this niche before but my competition was too strong. They made a name for themselves in my local community.

    Yeah.. Urinals would be great. LOL! people would never miss it. Anyway, first determine what is your niche then maybe you could be a research where to best place your flyers. Library could be a good idea but there are still other things that could help you.

    Example: about pets - post flyers in pet shops
    about vehicles - post them in car shops.

    There aren't many, if any, public places that you can legally put flyers and posters. There are places of business where you can ask if you can put one up, but good luck with that.

    You also can't distribute flyers in a parking lot. Did that once a long time ago and was threatened with a lawsuit if I ever did it again.

    But think about it ... flyers laying all over public places isn't going to make your business look professional. Professionals will take out an ad in the newspaper or magazines, etc. They don't litter.

    Makes me think about way back when I was organizing and promoting party's. Learned a lot of "offline" skills back then that also apply to online marketing. Most imported: which group or you targeting? If you're selling books, the library would be fine. If you're promoting your restaurant it's better to advertise near your competitors. Just like online marketing it's all about targeted traffic!

    Why not send postcards?

    My experience with flyers is that they work well for home services (lawn care, pest control, carpet cleaning) when left on the doors of homes.

    If they are left anywhere else (in public areas), they aren't very good for anything unless you are selling a used car, giving away a free dog, or you are a babysitter.

      Your own vehicle if you travel a lot or live on a busy street. I used a separate domain name to have some idea where that traffic was coming from.

      Leaving a biz card with your tip when dining. Never had a problem with that.

      If your trying to sell something good luck with people checking out a free book at the library.

          Even on their bellies or chest ... OMG!!!

          Yeah the big 2'x4' foot banner I had in the back of my truck was interesting. Laminated poster board. I never had so many near rear enders the screeching sound of tires locked up on asphalt or tailgaters that would back off after a few seconds. Its good to use a controversial but not obscene image.

    Flyers are very rarely productive, and most definitely will not produce the results you're looking for. Within the next two weeks I will be promoting a business with physical products, and the method I'll be using should be effective. PM with your email address, and I'll let you know how well it works out. Oh. The physical product is portable mining equipment and related products.

      In another forum someone mentioned how they had some free/cheap business cards printed up (Vistaprint would do the trick) and did an "ad" on the cards with a link to a weight loss clickbank offer. They did use their own domain though and not a hop link.

      They said they'd leave the cards out whenever they were out and about - in restroom stalls, places they'd had lunch, just wherever.

      The result was a nice amount of sales from just leaving the cards out.

      Of course, you're targeting something way more specific and you are worried about your company image. Still business cards are less obtrusive and seem more professional than most flyers.

      I notice at many places I go that there may be a spot for other local businesses to put out a few of their cards.

      I like the suggestions given above about talking with businesses that are related/need the service and ask if you can put out some cards with them.

        That's exactly what the hooker's in Vegas do, I wonder where he got the idea? Seriously if you go to any trade show they leave little cards all over your booth, so you regularly need to check for them.

          LOL It could very well be he learned something from the hookers! I can't recall if he said where he got the idea though.

          I've only been to Vegas twice and I remember the non-stop flyers and pamphlets being passed out to every man who walked by for "escorts". I was really curious about them so I MADE a guy give me one. I wonder how those flyers "convert". I just get a kick out of the descriptions of the people in the pamphlet.

      I usually hang my fliers up at places associated with my niche.

      I have however brought offline flier marketing to an online presence by adding QR codes to my flyers. Also on my pull tab fliers I have input bitly as a link shortener for my long weebly website that wouldn't fit on the tabs.

      I shall place them around a few business locations associated with my niche by riding my bike and putting them up with scotch tape.

      I was thinking trying to hang my flier within the store.

        When I first started out I tried fliers and they were the biggest waste of my time that I have ever had. I hope you have or plan to have some other form of advertising besides fliers and posters.

      I've been a coach, consultant and trainer for people who look to advertise their business. The one thing that is consistent is this - there are an infinite number of reasons to NOT do marketing or advertising. Nick Murray was once asked, at the height of the recession, as to what was the BEST way to market if you were a financial professional. His answer? "ANY, next question." Someone somewhere has figured out how to use poster advertising otherwise they (posters) wouldn't exist. You might try pull tab posters, or a variety of locations. I would disregard anyones advice that says XXX marketing strategy doesn't work. They don't work - for that person and so their mind is closed to that possibility. Find the person that does it well and emulate that strategy.
