How To Get Higher Conversions - Test Case - A/B Testing Tutorial

Many people here talk about landing pages, getting users to take ACTION, website optimizer, how to get higher conversions, and more.

Here's EXACTLY how to do it with a small tutorial and REAL data from my site AffiliateMarketer.info

STEP 1

You need 3 things

1. Your current landing page

2. A "test page" or variation of your landing page (maybe bigger fonts, maybe add a pictures, something different), just another page you think can entice your visitors differently than your original

3. Your success page or the page where a conversion happens, this could be a "thank you page".

Here was my original landing page that was getting a 4% conversion rate, (not good by warrior standards, we want 20% or higher)

yeah, that landing page got me 4% conversions for people subscribing to my newsletter. not real good, I can do better.

so I created a variation of my landing page that looked like this

I wasn't sure if this landing page would do better or not so I went to the next step:

STEP 2

Go to http://www.google.com/websiteoptimizer

Create an A/B test

google will ask you for you 3 pages, you original, your variation and your thank you page or "success page"

Give them the links and they will give you some code to put on your website.

STEP 3

Put the code on your pages that google gave you and then Get traffic to your website.

WATCH YOUR STATS NOW

This is the coolest part.

Your website visitors will tell you which page they prefer and want to convert more on.

Here were my results, notice I roughly TRIPLED my conversion rate.

Google optimizer tells me exactly which page is better, variation two, it even tells me the percent chance it will do better than my original.

Am I glad I tested another version? You bet.

Sometimes my new version will NOT do as good as the original, but If I keep testing I will eventually do better.

And THAT is how people get higher conversion rates on their landing pages

Do you know of any other tricks to get higher conversions other than a/b testing? Any other thoughts?
