Bum Marketing With EZA Dead?

Wou.. wou..
When I saw the thread http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post2234018

I thought, are you kidding me? Impossible!

But when I check my recent report, it shock me

Bum marketing with EZA was working like charm some 12 months ago but now, it's almost game over if you're still doing it the traditional way, abiding to all rules and regulations..

What does that mean? People are using a lot of grey hat and black hat methods to inflate their article views and more and more people upgraded to premium for unlimited submission. Just imagine, they are recruiting army of people (outsource) to write for them, spinning this and that, making avalanche bookmark on social bookmarking sites, building links like nobody...

So, where do you stand?

Well, I am still doing the Steve Wagenheim's way.. hand written every piece of article that I submitted to EZA.. but playing the above with other directories..

However, it seems like the bummer never had a chance to make money so easily anymore.

I never got "bum" marketing, because who wants to be a bum?

That being said - I've always thought it would be better to put all that content on your own site first, and treat every other secondary site like these as backlinking fodder that funnels people to YOU, not directly to the affiliate offers.

I don't want to be a jerk about it, but if all the people who had been doing bum marketing all along had done THAT instead of bum marketing, where do you think they would be now, and do you think any changes like EZAs would effect them as much?

I dunno - it just seems like all of the people who say "Bum Marketing Don't Work!" and the people who reply and say "Yeah but it takes long and you have to do this and that and the other thing"...

If you're doing all that to make your articles work on EZA, that SAME EFFORT will reap much more long-term dividends if you do those tasks on your own virtual real estate. Just my $0.02.

      Completely agree....

Bum Marketing was a nice way to make some extra money, but article marketing by itself is not a business - it's a nice promotion method, but not a business.

Short answer - EZA is not dead, but bum marketing with EZA has evolved from its original sense and the original Travis Sago way is no longer anywhere as effective.

There is lots of stuff that goes on in between but this is the simplest possible explanation.

And BTW, I don't have a WSO on the forum

EDIT: I have also had a couple of my articles end up in the most viewed section and that always generates a lot of traffic.

The key to my article marketing is that I spend 4 times as much time on promoting the article than I do on writing.

Hope it solves some of the confusion

Bum marketing itself (in its original form) was never a particularly good idea (mainly for the reasons Colin mentions). Article marketing however has a whole lot more to it than just writing a ton of articles, submitting them, and hoping they stick. As Mohommad demonstrated, article marketing DOES work but you need to think long term, ie getting your articles ranked in the search engines, sending the traffic to a site you own (rather than blogger, squidoo etc) and building a list.

Of course, it also depends on what niche you're writing about; trends etc. If I was trying to sell MC Hammer pants I probably wouldnt get as many views (or CTR's) as if I was teaching people how to get a free ipad. What you're talking about has a lot to do with views, and the competitiveness of your niche has a lot to do with how well you can rank in google. I don't believe EZA is dead at all.

EZA is nothing more than another authority site that accepts user generated content. That simply means if you post an article with the right keyword and build some links to it, your article will rank well in the search engines and you will get traffic. If your article is decent and has a good call to action, a percentage of that traffic will click through.

You can actually do the same thing with the WarriorForum, VideoForward.com or any other authority site that the search engines spider every two seconds and love.

The thing that is making EZA not perform as well as it used to is - it's been hyped up so much that now you're competing on EZA with 100 other marketers promoting same products with the same keywords.

Thanks Ron for reminding me of this simple fact. I am relying too much on EZA that I've always dependent on them. I'll devise some new plan..

because this is going to take a while. I hope you get something out of it.

I started writing articles long before Bum Marketing, or for that matter
article marketing in general, came into vogue. I learned early that content
made the Internet go round...regardless of where that content ended up.

In other words, it could be your site, a web 2.0 site, the site of another
marketer looking for guest authors or whatever. I've written for many sites
and many people. I still have all my guest author blog logins, though I don't
use them as much as I used to. I just don't have the time.

Point is, if you're using just ONE avenue to get your content seen, you're
missing the point of syndication. While it is true that EZA is the only article
              directory
I submit to, it is NOT the only place where my articles go.

I have my own blog, Squidoo lenses, hub pages, Blogspot blogs and guest
blogs...mostly WordPress...where you will find much of my writing.

And this doesn't even include all the people who scraped my articles from
              the directories.

Plus...I wrote like a madman for years. A lot of Bum Marketers think that
they can write a few articles and make a mint. Good luck with that.

Now, having said all that, the variables that go into how successful or
unsuccessful an article marketing campaign is are numerous to say the
least. And Bum Marketing, at least at the core, is not the problem.

The problem is all the variables and the human intervention required. All
of these things can derail a campaign.

              Here's a short list:

              1. The niche chosen.

If you think you're going to venture into a niche like debt relief or gambling
or some very competitive niche just by writing a few articles, submitting
them to directories and doing nothing else, forget it. You'll be lucky to get
              one view, let alone many.

              2. The keywords chosen.

I can't believe how many people don't have a clue how to do keyword
research. They either target keywords so generic that hardly anybody is
interested in their article or so specific that there isn't enough traffic to
fill a thimble. You need a good mix of keywords to get the traffic, the
              responsive traffic that you need.

              3. The title chosen.

If your title doesn't grab people's attention, they're not going to read the
article...period. My advice to Bum Marketers or article marketers in
general is to learn how to write a sales letter. THEN you'll come up with
              better article titles.

              4. The directories chosen.

Some directories are worthless...period. Test and discard. If a directory
doesn't perform, chuck it. Don't waste your time submitting to directories
that give you a few views. I'm testing a directory out right now that so
far has been disappointing, but the owner says it's going to take a little
time for the articles to be indexed. So I'm having patience. But eventually,
I'll know if it's worth it to keep submitting.

The above all has to do with how many views you'll get without doing
anything else other than just submit and pray.

But what if you want to help things along?

              Well, then you have...

              5. The social bookmarking sites chosen.

Some just aren't worth it. And with sites like Digg, you need to have an
army behind you to get enough Diggs to make a difference. Social
bookmarking is going to help more for backlinking than actual visitors, in
most cases, UNLESS you have a really hot topic.

              6. The social networking sites chosen.

This has become a big part of article marketing, like it or not. Get people
to follow you on sites like Facebook and Twitter. But not just any people.
People who are REALLY interested in what YOU have to say.

              And then finally...

              7. The X Factor

I'm not going to go into detail on this one. I'm referring to those less than
ethical practices that some article marketers use. I refuse to use them
but I'm not your Jiminy Cricket. You have to do what YOU feel is right.

** Warning ** Some of these tactics CAN get your accounts deleted.

              So, what's the answer?

Today, if you want to be successful as an article marketer, you can't look
at yourself as an article marketer. You have to look at yourself as a
              content provider.

              1. Thoroughly research a niche and know it...COLD.

              2. Set up an authority site and load it up with content that's fit to be in
              a magazine.

              3. Syndicate that content everywhere you can think of.

              4. Become a real authority on your subject.

Without realizing it, this is what I did early on as an article marketer.
While I didn't set up my own blog until about 2 years ago, my articles
              appeared all over the place.

People knew who I was, even if I didn't have a site to go to.

Today, I get more views at my blog daily (since I took all those articles
and reposted them...argh) than I do from any article at EZA.

Had I set up my site in 2003 and done this...well...that's water under
              the bridge.

And yes, as was pointed out, you have to write some kick ass articles to
get Google to notice you...and not these 250 word pieces of crap that
              some article marketers call articles.

Anyway, this is the reality of today. Unless you tap into something that
hardly anybody knows about, you've got an uphill battle with getting
              views and making sales.
Wow, that's an eye opening post Steve! I've always like your honest approach. Okay, let me just tweak my campaign.

              Thanks everybody!

This is absolutely, 100%, true, and these sites are just getting more popular and trafficked, with each day. Those who control the quality of their databases will emerge as leaders.....and, people will continue to be able to catapult and reinforce their own websites and personal brands off of them.

Hey Travis, glad to have you clarify. I shouldn't have called it "Bum" marketing in this case as I forgot that was a brand name, as I'm sure happens a lot. I've taken your course, and it's true, you present it as you say. I forgot - my bad. Apologies.

What I mean to say is, the strategy of "I want to be an affiliate and ONLY do web 2.0 and articles on other people's sites, linking directly to affiliate offers" - that's not really a good long-term strategy by itself.

With the same effort it takes to do that, if you put the content on your own site, and then use article marketing in support of THAT site, you'll really get a lot more benefit.

Even if it's just a free blogger blog. There IS benefit in article marketing - but instead of being a transparent middle man, be a VISIBLE middle man and build something for yourself out of the deal - some traffic to your own site, some SEO benefit, build a list, etc.

Hope that clarifies my point - my bad on calling it "bum" marketing when I meant something more generic. Sorry Travis, thanks for calling me on it.

Well, here's the rest of my evening shot, but what the heck. Sit back folks
because this is going to take a while.

Steven, without quoting your post in its entirety this is one of the best post I have seen in a while.

To the OP no EZA is alive and well my stats are still strong.

I can also tell you it is not dead and for those that don't understand bum marketing, ahem, Colin Theriot, it has nothing to do with wanting to be a "Bum". If you understood why it is called that you would know that it is called "bum marketing" because you could literally take a bum off the street and teach it to them and they could make money without investing a dime of cash. This was actually done and proven.

Bum marketing will never be dead. I have over 3,000 articles on EZA along with many on other sites and yes I could take a snapshot that shows you that I am getting no hits from five or six of them, but I could also take one showing that I am getting thousands of views every month from other articles.

Some articles, niches, and subjects just don't get traffic and some do....it is that simple.

BTW those that are boosting their views and are not submitting unique content will get weeded out over time.....Black hat and grey hat are called that way because they are temporary.....Content is still king and will always be.
