Work on increasing the number of backlinks to your blog. Writing and submitting articles to directories like ezinearticles.com helps. Give the Blog Traffic Exchange a try... it has worked for me.

A lot of the key techniques have been mentioned already. Having a look at similar blogs and commenting on posts you are interested in with a link back to your blog is always good. It will encourage the writer of that blog to read yours and hopefully reciprocate.

Setting up a Twitter account is really easy, just follow the process on the Twitter website, there is a 'Sign Up' button on the homepage. Its good to relate your Twitter account name to your blog name, if possible so people can see the connection and have a link to your blog on your Twitter profile. A lot of blogs and certainly wordpress blogs have a plugin that automatically tweets when you have published a new blogpost so you don't even need to do this yourself and it keeps your Twitter account active. Its good to use Twitter to engage with other Twitter users with similar interests too, answering their questions and having conversations about the topic of your blog. This will encourage them to visit it and comment on it.

This is only two things you can do, there are loads. The number one marketing podcast on iTunes UK is really useful for explaining how to actually do different online marketing techniques to promote both blogs and websites to get more visitors.

You renounce them to social networking sites like twitter and facebook. If you write unique and interesting articles, much better. People have different interest and you should know what are today's most popular trends to write on. Search engine optimization is what bloggers researched and studied to promote their blogs. You can track your traffic on google analytics.

One good way to get visitors to your site is to put up a website or domain for sale at Flippa and include a link to your blog to sign up for updates.

You could list your auction for 30 days for just $19. You'll get plenty of visitors to your auction listing and even email signups.

    Good luck!

      Hiya

      Some good advice above.

A couple of things that I would add are.

Approaching related blog owners to do a guest post that has a link back to your site. Blog commenting again on related sites.

As far as backlinks go focus on quality not quantity. Especially after
what Google said last week! Work smart in other words.

      Good luck

        Hi,

Yea I find guest posts work really well to. It's a process getting your blog moving but there certainly is no shortage of where you can get traffic. Post good content rich articles and then submit additional articles to all the blog directories etc. Take advantage of free press release submission sites coupled with some guest posts and optimized articles should help alot.

I personally have not had much success with twitter or youtube but I know others who have and they rave about it. Those are two more options probably worth checking out.

I would probably stick to a single method until you get it working for you then move onto the next traffic method and so on, that way your really giving each a good go and you should get results out of them.

Keep on adding High quality content in your blog and build backlinks on other sites. The links on the other sites will point back to your blog. As long as there is your blog link in those sites. Adding quality content to your blog: - Do it regularly to attract regular visits by your readers. You can build backlinks by: 1. Adding comments on other blogs and put your URL. 2. Submitting articles to article directories. 3. Bookmarking your articles. And the other methods already indicated above.

Absolutely! I think guest blogging is one of the best ways to get yourself out there, because you already know that you're going to have the attention of a highly-targeted audience.

Personally, I would get several great blog posts on my own site, then start looking for guest blog opportunities. That way, when people click on my link, there's a site with a bunch of content on it already.

Get a plan of what sort of promotions you're going to do consistently for the next few months to increase the traffic. Be realistic. If you have a plan of 10 things to do, you're probably NOT going to stick with it. Even if it's 1 thing a day, as long as you're consistent you're going to see far greater results.

Don't just have a vague idea of what you're going to do because you're most likely won't do it.

The simple way I did it to increase traffic was to write 1 article a day for my blog. After that I'd social bookmark it. That was it. Sometimes I'd create a video instead, post on my blog, post on youtube, then SB that too.

Of course you need to do your proper keyword research as well so each article has the best chance of ranking.

By doing this 1 simple thing traffic will increase in about a week, provided you're targeting the right keywords.

Once you have gotten into the routine of this, you'll find yourself completing it faster. Than you outsource getting more backlinks or do that yourself by getting Angela or Paul's packages.

Gradually add to this plan, just make sure you're consistent with posting and backlinking.

Search the google keyword tool for keywords that are related that have over 300 golbal monthly searches

Save all the keywords you would like to write posts about in a file.

Then go to google and type allintitle:KEYWORD

All of the keywords that have less than 500 search results will be easy to rank for. These will be your posts.

Then write a post with the keyword in the title, meta keywords, meta description, in the title of the page, withing the first 90 characters of the page, with 1%-2% keyword on page density and the keyword in a text link. That will give you the proper on page SEO.

Then do that a lot. Make a lot of SEO'd pages (as described above) and watch the traffic come.

There is alot more to do like using onlywire to bookmark each post, getting a good ping list and submitting your RSS feeds. But that is a good start.

If you want to know any more about it just contact me and I can point you in the right direction.

I would like to compile a list of all the traffic source methods that can bring conversions. Once I have this list I will then compile a list of places to go for each method

I will start the list and as people suggest missing sources I will update this post.

    So here goes the start:

PPC (pay Per Click) - This is where you pay a set fee for each person who clicks your advert. This can be from search engines or website networks.

PPV/CPV (Pay/Cost Per View) - This is typically when you advert is displayed as a pop under/over.

Article Marketing - Submitting articles to article directories

Article distribution - Submitting article to a service that automatically distributes your article.

Press Releases - Releasing a news story with a link back to your site across a news network.

P2P - Releasing files on P2P networks for free with a link back to your site.

Offline Classifieds - Making classified ad offline with a link to your site

Offline Noticeboards - Putting up postcards on public noticeboards linking back to your site

Online Classifieds - Posting an ad to online classified sites like craigslist

Forums - Participating in forums and adding a signature link

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) - Getting site listing in natural search engine listings

CPM (cost per thousand) - This is usually banner advertising or display advertising on websites.

Newsletters/ Ezine - Many popular online newsletter allow for sponsorship and will put a link back to your site.

Directory Listings - There are several online directories that actually can bring traffic to your site by paying for a listing.

Mass E-Mail - Sending out an advertising email to either a rented, generated or compiled list.

Social Networking - Creating profiles and submitting content that links back to you site on popular social networking sites

Blog Commenting - Finding popular relevant blog posts and linking back to your site in the post.

Viral Reports - Creating a report to giveaway, that the people you give it to, in turn, give it away to others.

Host Beneficiary - Contacting others who already have a customer base and arranging a way to put your product infront of them. Can be in the form of a joint venture, or giving something away free to someone elses list in return for caputing their details.

Video Marketing - Creating videos and submitting them to popular video websites

Image Marketing - Submitting pictures to popular image sharing websites that link back to your main site

Q&A Websites - Finding questions on Q&A sites that are relevant to your site and linking back in the answer.

Web 2.0 User Submitted Content Sites - Submitting content to web 2.0 sites that links back to your main site.

Affiliates - Offering a comission on sales for affiliate marketers to refer sales

Which ones have I missed? I am looking for sources as in the type. So for instance I have listed PPC as a type, so all other PPC style advertising sites will be covered by that. Once I get a full list of types, I will continue research and try to create a list of specific sites for each to share with everyone.

TV Commercials - Creating commercials for internet or offline TV stations

Radio Adverts - Online or offline radio stations

Competitions - Sponsoring competitons on websites or radio usually to get website mentioned.

Direct Mail - Sending out letters or postcards with link back to your website

Free Software - Create useful software for free like a small application or a toolbar. You could load part of you site inside a frame within the software, display ads or even re-direct users.

Referral System - Such as a tell a friend script on site so people can spread the word about your site.
this is the complete list if traffic sources posted by GuerrillaIM

There are a lot of ways to generate traffic to your blog. There are free and paid methods to do it. If you have a budget, go to the paid route for faster process, and also do some of the free methods like:

    - article marketing

    - forum marketing

    - blog commenting

    - guest blogging

There are still a lot of ways to generate traffic using free methods, but those 4 that I listed can bring you a very targeted traffic.

I would suggest this mini action plan

Day 1 - Write a unique article based on one of your blog posts and submit to EzineArticles. Add a link to your blog.

Day 2 - Quickly rewrite the article. Create a video using Windows movie maker, and add an audio recording of you reading the rewritten article and take highlights of the text as "slides" in the video. Submit the video to youtube and add your blog URL to the video description.

Day 3 - Open your Facebook account and create a Fan page for your blog. Then invite your friends and family to like the Fan page so you have an initial number of "fans". Post the Facebook widget to your blog sidebar.

Day 4 - Identify other blogs in your niche. Read their posts and leave useful comments and link back to your blog. (Over time, build a reputation as a helpful community member in their blog and later apply as a guest blogger.)

Day 5 - Identify forums in your niche. Create accounts (be sure to save the URLs, usernames and passwords so you don't forget them), then participate in the discussions. Use the signature area to add a link to your blog.

Day 6 - Identify blog directories you can join. Submit your blog for inclusion in the directories.

Day 7 - Make a blog post that links to posts in other blogs. Other bloggers check their stats and will see your blog as a referrer. Also if they use Wordpress, your link will show in their comments as a trackback. If they liked your blog, they will link back to you.

After the Ezine article is published, do this:

      * Rewrite one of your blog posts and create a Squidoo Lens. Add a link to your blog and to the Ezine Article.
      * Rewrite the article again and create a Hubpage. Add a link to your blog and to the Ezine Article.

You can do most of these on a weekly basis until you build a stable of traffic sources to your blog.

(Print this list and tack it on a corkboard as a reminder. *wink)

The first thing I do is make sure my blogs are hooked into ping.fm so when I update a notice goes out to all of my social networks. Another great tool for this is Hootsuite, a free broadcasting tool that has produced unbelievable results for me.

I've also used Traffic Exchanges and Safelists with very nice results as well. And of course let's not forget article marketing.

Also don't forget to use social bookmarking for your blog posts that are newsworthy. And last but not least, do a search on google for "increase web traffic" and you'll find endless results.

Im assuming you have installed the plugin "all in one seo pack", if not I suggest you do.

The other comments are quite right, writing relevent articles and submitting them to sites such as Ezinearticles.com or Articlesbase.com will greatly improve your ranking but make sure you do some keyword research before you write them and when you submit them.

Another idea is to submit your site to blog directories, these will certainly help with exposure. Some are free others are paid. You may have a problem with one or two as they like mature blogs such as 6 months or older but just find others.

You could use Twitter, not a big fan, but any content on there will give you more presence with google and help with the listings.

    Hope this helps

Sun-Tzu would advocate REALLY knowing your 'enemy' (i.e. Competitors)

Find their blogs in your niche, comment on them, leave a link to your site (usually your name will link to your site from your comment), get to know their posting schedule, and be sure to be one of the first (within reason) to leave a coment (of substance and value) on their blog...

Their traffic WILL check out your site....
