First Ebook - Which Route Do I Go?

Note: I am not trying to presell an ebook what so ever, just looking for advice.

I am working on my first ebook, on a niche I am fairly confident in and would consider my self fairly advanced in.

I am wondering which route would be best to take - PLR vs Selling out right?

What are your experiences with this, and any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Selling it. PLR you can only sell so many licenses, just selling it you can make much more. That being said, you could upsell MRR to make more.

I would have thought you would be more successful at selling it outright. You could add upsells and do promotions where you offer a discount. You can add bonuses which, if they are the right ones, can help sell the book.

Good luck with it whatever you decide.

Sell it. Also encourage others to make money with you through clickbank and paydotcom, sell it through generated websites, to marketing lists etc.

Some people swear by PLR, including the owner of this forum, but unless you are a "big fish" everything I have read implies you will not get much uptake.

I am in the same boat about a week ago. But, i just followed my gut. And the thing i did was make up a group in facebook, and old my ebook to the group. I got tonnes of thanks and suggestions to make a revised version.

It wasn't all great though. I did get some bad remarks, about 2% of the customers in fact. But, facebook has really opened it up for me.

I would recommend selling it yourself. You can use a website like Clickbank or PaydotCom to help you attract affiliates, but that takes more time.

Why not put up a site promoting your book with the appropriate keywords and start writing some articles in the niche to attract visitors?

I would sell it first, I believe that you'll find it to be a lot more profitable.

You can also go to affiliates and offer to give them 100% commissions on it and use
it as a way to help build your list.

How can anyone answer this question without asking what the op'er wants to achieve?

If it's building a big email list quickly then it may be better to offer it for free, then use the email list for other products and upsells.

If it's quick money the op'er is after then naturally selling may be an option, but it will take alot of effort and marketing, don't underestimate that.

Define what you want to achieve, then people can help you (get a mentor even) - as unfocused advice is going to confuse you, and may (I say may) not even be the right advice.

      Great point... Thanks.

I thought about trying to sell the Ebook outright to someone for a few (low) hundred dollars.. Has that route ever been taken? I don't have the necessary experience to invest a lot of money to try and sell my first book.

  • My comment may be skewed a bit since I am in the private label ebooks niche. But I have found with my own products that selling them with PLR, limiting the number of sales, and giving first option to my own list to work.

Sell it. Use upsells, and also promote affiliate related products on the backend.

    ...to make ONE sale.

Look, I hope you do well. As a person who has sold scores of Information Products (eBooks) and has helped many other people to get started...this advice comes from the tested and proven trenches.

    Sell it.

Make ONE sale. This has to happen before you can do anything else because up until that moment, it is all speculation and he said/she said/guru said...

Sell it. Sell one copy. It is that simple, but not easy because you need a promotion and you need people (traffic). IF you are the expert you claim, then you already KNOW where the people hang out on the Internet. HOW are they already buying products? How will you tap into this ready to buy market? What will your sales promotion look like?

What will happen once they buy it? Do you have back ends? A well thought out strategy on what to do next?

For YEARS at the WF we've witnessed FRUSTRATION from people who can't make a single dime with their efforts, the solution? Make a dime. Then make a dollar. THEN make more dollars.

Once you SELL your work, then you can make adjustments to your model. I've sold my eBooks one at a time, PLR, MRR and even "lock, stock and barrel".

Until you know you can SELL it, you are spinning wheels and wasting your time. So the best ROUTE for you to take (in my 25 years of DOING it opinion) is to SELL one (if you can) and then prepare a written plan of action to go from there.

    Good luck.

This is almost impossible to answer without knowing what type / quality this product is.

The most important is missing though: what do you want / need to achieve?

Set a goal. What do you want from this product you have created? Fast money to finance next step? Slow but perhaps more money to make the creation effort worth it? Build a list?

The goal will help you decide where / how you sell it.
