Necessary to build a blog to get traffic?

Hi fellow warriors,
I'm currently looking at more ways to build traffic to my minisite. Would like to seek out your professional opinions on this...

Would it be neccessary to have a blog set up and get traffic, so as to drive more traffic to another non-blog mini-site?

Has anyone tried only relying on minisites, without using blogs, and successfully got lots of traffic?

Thanks for the great idea. Yes I mean getting traffic to a minisite (single sales page).
I was thinking due to the sales page nature, can't really get much traffic especially when you're new..
Thought of starting a blog...it's just the whole idea of having to have frequent post in blogs just made me wanna drop the whole idea...

I have plenty of blogs where I simply removed the dates from the templates. I might post stuff actively for a month or so and then quit, but they still get traffic from the search engines for a long time if they're seo'd decently.

Blogs always rank high however keeping up with the content for them is a pain. A quick way to gain some traffic is to look into autoblogging if blogging is not something you want to do yourself.

One way to generate traffic with a blog is to swap links
with other quality blogs in the same or similar niche using a
    sidebar 'blogroll'

Visitors are much more likely to click on a link to
a blog (added to the 'blogroll' on blogs in the same/similar niche)
because they are actively interested in your niche... bringing you targeted traffic.

As well as getting targeted traffic flowing around blogs, the link in the blogroll
is also a backlink (that appears on every page of a blog because the blogroll is
    usually located in a sidebar).

As far as concerns about outbound links causing a lowering in search engine
rankings... it's all about relevance because relevant links provide a quality experience
and are useful to the visitor.
Check out what Google has to say on the subject:
Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Linking out: Often it's just applying common sense

How do you swap links with other blogs?
One way is to email the owner of a quality blog in the same/similar niche and
request a link in their blogroll to your blog (tip: add a link to their blog
in your blogroll first and tell the blog owner you've done this, you can always
remove the link again if they choose not to reciprocate).

    cheers

Blogs are a very good option, and i find it is more motivating to post on a blog then create be material.
But in my opinion i do rate forum traffic better then blog traffic, but that may just be in my case!
    Cheers
