Well, when you enter a domain name they list this at the bottom of the estimate:
This result outline estimated traffic levels received by the submitted URL, Take the result lightly and you can consider this result as our opinion.

I think EstiBot.com - Free Domain Appraisal and Domain Productivity Tools is probably the best of these types of tools.

Ahh, you beat me to it. I actually don't use it for appraisals, but for the other information it provides.

From my exprerience, none of the auto appraisal tools hold a candle to real human appraisals that can be had for free. I'm not sure If I can mention other forums here, but there are a couple where people live and breath domain names and are more than happy to share their opinions. Be aware, those opinions are not always constructive, so if you have a thin hide stay away, but if you want and are willing to listen and learn, that is the best way to get a quick idea of the value for a domain name.

Exactly .. if you want an inaccurate domain valuation, use an automated tool. Namepros.com is one of the forums that you can get opinions on value from professionals, but as Mr. E, mentioned ... requires a thick skin. You can actually learn a lot from registering crap domains and going there for an opinion .... lol. Done that a couple of times and it forced me to learn more about what is actually a premium domain or a valuable domain.

The domains that many call premium domains in their sales letters aren't even close to being a good domain, much less a premium domain.

Seems to give quite a lot of interesting information - but valuations are way out (in my opinion).

With Estibot they give a wholesale valuation of a domain and a resale value. The wholesale is wht conceivably you might expect to sell it to another domainer for. It really depends however whether it is the kind of domain that fits into their portfolio. The other value is probably a good starting point for negotiations.

I recently picked up a domain that Estibot maintains was worth $5200. I don't think it is at all, and I picked it up for not much more than regfee but it is a popular searched term with a lot of adword competition so it definitely has considerable value, especially if it is attached to a site that already has good rankings for that particular term. It is however worth considering that if Estibot thinks a domain is worth nothing the chances are it probably is!

But yes, NEVER EVER buy a domain just because Estibot thinks it is worth lots of money. The domain forums that I think Mr E might have been referring to include http://namespro.com and DNForum.com - Welcome to DNForum.com. There are others. There is also a pretty good WSO on here by Zach Booker which might be worth picking up if you are interested in domaining.

Thanks for the suggest on namepros.com forum. I've tried at least 6 of the 'enter your domain here and see how much $ you'll never get from anyone' automated sites, and they have been all over the place. I'll see what happens with the suggestion. 'Thick skin' is on without any 'LOLs' here.

Thanks for 'Estibot'. Any appraisal recommendation that gives me over $1500 for a 12+ year old domain gives me hope.

        Thanks for the suggestions, Everyone!

To be honest all domain appraisal are crap...why? How is a computer going to judge what something is worth. Sure it give great info on the metrics of the name but the decision always comes down to how much you want to spend.

Many names get very high estimates due to screwed #'s but does that make "heyim45andlovingit.info" worth $1500?? (please its just an example not a real domain)

Dont look to services to "tell you" how much a domain is...Let your business budget tell you and go from there!
