Safest way to buy domain from a dealer?

Hi Everyone,
I don't have huge experience in buying domains from anyone other than a registration company.
I have recently negotiated the purchase of a domain for $500
Is there a secure service that I can use for the transfer from the current owner to myself? Something that will satisfy both of us would be preferable.
I've used escrow.com before but that was for a site at about $7K - it was secure but the fees were expensive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

    How about:

    Sedo - The world's leading domain marketplace-Sedo.com

    I've used them successfully before.

    Try...

    Afternic.com
    Sedo.com
    Moniker.com

They are all secure and if I'm not mistaken Moniker has pretty reasonable fees. Why not negotiate with the seller to pick up the fees? If they balk, renegotiate to split the fees 70 - 30. With them paying 70%!

If they balk at that reduce it and see what they say.

Escrow's fees are only $31.50 for a $500 transaction. Ask the seller to split the costs, since the service benefits both of you PLUS you can use a credit card to pay. I don't think $16 or so is a lot for the features that they provide.

      Transpact.com's fees are £2.99 / €3.49 / $3.99 (fixed fees - not related to transaction size).

They are also registered with the UK Government's FSA and HMRC bodies.
