How would you monetise a mini-site dedicated to a single celebrity?

Hello Warriors,

Let's consider you built a mini-site around a single celebrity... something like 5-6 pages containing the celebrity's:
profile
filmography
love-life
latest gossips
memorable in-movie quotes (by the particular celeb)
upcoming movies
wallpapers
etc.

How would you go about monetising a site like that? Assuming that there were a good 500 visitors everyday to a site like this, what could be the potential of such a site? How much could it earn every month?

To answer that, feel free to consider 2 situations:
1) A static site (with simple updates on pages like gossip, upcoming movies - few and far in between)
2) A website with posts related to the celebrity, at least 2 per week

Thanks for any ideas and help on this one, in advance

You could use Amazon to display some movies or CD's they've made. In some cases they might have even wrote a book. Another good idea is to do a search on the celebs name then put affiliate programs after it and it may bring up some good programs. Plus there is always adsense and such.

Why not search for some popular celebs and see what others are doing? If they are popular sites, they have probably been at it awhile and have tried a number of different things already, deciding to go with whatever they have at the present moment.

That's no guarantee, of course. But if it looks as if it's a well-done site, and the person running it seems to have a sense about SEO and other things that would make them at least a somewhat savvy internet marketer, then they probably have tried a few different options.

Amazon is good. Adsense is good. I would also do laterals. For example, does the celebrity in question already have endorsement deals? Actresses do makeup and fashion deals, for example. There's opportunity there. There's also affiliate and advertising that would simply appeal demographically to the celebrity's fanbase.

I believe first off you want to know who your target market is.
If you are highlighting a male teen star then teen girls would be your target and anything to do with chatting, fashion, style, etc... would be what you are looking for.

On the other hand if you had a memorial to Johnny Cash then your target and products would be entirely different.

Many people read up about celebrity weightloss, so theres a good market that fits right in with this website type.

You took the words right out of my mouth Chris.

This would work really well if you created a site on a celebrity that already endorses a particular product that you can be an affiliate for.

I would definitely post AdSense. You could also try some affiliate leads/signup links, like those found on Azoogle and such. There's typically a healthy offering of (seemingly) frivolous signup materials, like taking surveys, signing up for dating, and other things celebrity, relationship and weight-loss related.

    Wow, some amazing tips there.

I tried looking for products celebs use (not necessarily endorse) and found some. Those products even have affiliate products and pay like 5-10%, with a single sale earning me anywhere from $2-5 (in commissions) per sale. Too low for a single celebrity site, methinks.

All this got me thinking... Should I instead focus on running a site covering many celebs? I'd love to hear your thoughts, as Warriors are my best internet marketing peers.

Most people use adsense to monetize celebrity sites. You can also use certain affiliate offers (CPA, CB, Amazon, etc) based on the demographic that visits your site.

There's always adsense, affiliates or maybe you could try selling goodies suchs as shirts, dolls etc... well if it applies. Other goodies like books, biography, music...

Netflix has a great affiliate program if your celeb is an actor. Might try that as well. Post some you-tube trailers of their hottest movies and then a link to the vid on Netflix.

Here is a site you can take some great ideas from. It's a revenue generator in the type of niche you are referring to: GOSSIP ON THIS! // The Latest Entertainment News and Celebrity Gossip, Pictures, Music Videos, Songs and More!

What you're going to find out about these type of sites is that they have a mixture of CPA offers, usually related to weight loss, jobs, schooling, movies and whatever the latest and greatest "IN" thing is.

P.S. Notice how they SEO optimize each page.

This is actually the best advice you'll get concerning this matter! Check out you competition and DO what they are doing.

Typically, textual Adsense ads are a BAD idea with these types of sites on a number of levels.

(1). You can't SEO optimize the site for any particular niche

(2). Your CTR is going to be low and shifty, which will subject you to smart pricing on a regular basis.

(3). A lower CTR lowers your eCPM and of course lowers your estimated earnings

Overall, taking a chance with textual Adsense ads on these sites is not a good idea. The graphic Adsense ads are a really a toss up with these types of sites and only testing will tell the tale. As Trivum stated, see what the top sites are doing in this niche and follow suit.

In terms of updating the site, why not use Google Alerts and target certain celebrities and when you get an alert, just do a quick post and forget about it.
