A WF marketing strategy w/a [not so subtle] twist?

Fellow Warriors,

I don't post often...obviously. But I've been here for quite a while and have seen things revolve and change and grow. I have learned a great deal from others and have offered my share of ideas when I thought I could add value to someone's post.

So, what's with the thread starters where people are asking a question in their title, making a post and then providing the answer in their signature block (for sale of course). I find this interesting. I didn't say wrong, just interesting.

Thread title, "Have you ever been bitten by a dog?" [signature block includes $7 ebook, "How to avoid getting bitten by your own dog!"] Or "Have you ever seen the movie "My garden is growing slowly?" [signature block - WSO coming soon "My garden is growing on crack!"]

Maybe I'm just rambing...while at the same time perhaps being overly protective of newbies who fall into the newbie trap...maybe I don't really have much of a point at all and need more coffee! Yeah, I think that's it!

    I report such threads if they don't contain enough information to stand on their own merits. For example, if the post is intentionally vsgue or written in a way that would naturally lead people to wanting to know more.

    Other than that, if it's a good post and offers value, I usually let them slide.

    I admit it's not an exact science, and that it's subjective, but I will report them if I think they're just shilling for their sig.

    I think it's mostly the newbies that do it.

    Usually with something like:
    Q. How can I get visitors to my website?
    Sig file: Drive massive traffic to your site overnight

    If it's an obvious ploy to get looks to their sig, just report it and it goes away pretty quickly. Often they get so much flack from other posters calling them out on it that it ends up being a pretty unprofitable and uncomfortable method of getting noticed.

        Add me to the list of people who report the sig pimps.

        Another variant I've seen a lot lately are the ones who seek out threads asking questions even vaguely related to the product in the sig. The post usually only says something like "the report in my sig might help."

        [Should we start a pool on how many more posts it takes before someone moans about "marketers complaining about marketing"???]

    I see that stuff too. And like Michael, I'll hit the report button if it's just a fluff post that doesn't have any value. The easiest ones to report are those posts that actually say, "see my sig for more info." lol

    Have anyone in this thread ever milked a cow? Many people do it the wrong way, and then they wonder why the cow won't give them any more milk...
