I love using Camtasia Studio. Just plug in a USB mic and start recording your screen. The studio lets you add watermarks, optimize audio and produce various video formats. It usually works like a charm.

I was going to recommend this: ScreenToaster - Online screen recorder. Capture screencasts instantly. - but looks like they will no longer be working.

Try this link for your answers:

I persoanlly use Jing. The free version let's you make 5 minute videos, it just outputs them in .swf. You can't upload these to youtube ( I believe), but it works good if you upload it to your own server.

You should be able to convert your videos using Any Video Converter:

Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG

You can get CamStudio for free. Just Google it to go to the website. Here's what they say they do:

CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)
Here are just a few ways you can use this software:
          • You can use it to create demonstration videos for any software program
          • Or how about creating a set of videos answering your most frequently asked questions?
          • You can create video tutorials for school or college class
          • You can use it to record a recurring problem with your computer so you can show technical support people
          • You can use it to create video-based information products you can sell
          • You can even use it to record new tricks and techniques you discover on your favourite software program, before you forget them

I find Camtasia Studio 6 to be the best screen capture program. It also has a great MPEG 4 compressor.

Camtasia is good and I have been using it for more than one year for my projects. There are many creative ways to make video using this software and by far it is the best on-screen capturing software to me.

I have tried Jing before. It is from the same TechSmith company if I do remember correctly. Jing is free but one of its limitations is you can only create short length video at a time. And you can't really save your file into various formats. Camtasia does it much better (e.g.: wmv, avi, swf, flv...etc) BUT Jing is certainly a simple and easy to use video editing tool if you just get started with making video.

More advantages of Camtasia are you can highlight your cursor (like what shown in the video), add different callout (e.g. blurring effect to cover your login ID and password in your video), create subtitle automatically.... etc!

Like mcmahanusa mentioned, you can get 30 days trial from Camtasia website. Try it out see if you like it, then turn to other software if you find it doesn't suit you.

CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software - Camstudio is a free screen capture software. It doesn't have so many options as Camtasia... but it might work for you.

I like Camtasia personally. Depending on how long it is you may can us Jing which is a cousin of Camtasia. It is limited to a few minutes if you don't pay for it.

There are some nice recommendations on programs here. I typically have used other software, which is a bit more cumbersome.

    Thanks!

I've had the last three versions of Camtasia and I love it. However, I have a Mac and the Mac version isn't as good as the Windows version (so I run both versions on my computer)
