Fishing - What can I teach you?

So since I left StomperNet last year, I've been doing essentially the same work in IM that I did there as a freelancer, namely writing launch copy and influence building guru kind of messaging.

I dabbled in some offline stuff, but I've come back to what I'm good at and what I really, really know well.

But I'd love to move away from that into more of a teaching role, so I post things here occasionally and to my blog, but I'm struggling at the moment.

People do seem to get benefit from what I share, but I lack focus as far as figuring out how to compartmentalize what I know into the right "chunks" that will help people.

Just by osmosis from working where I did, I probably know all manner of extremely valuable information, but I don't even know where to begin.

So in a way I'm fishing - I'm looking to blog more and start more threads here but I actually want to help people and not just make up BS about what I think might make you buy something from me later.

What is it I can help people here with?

Fishing. Now, you're speaking my language!

I know that when we talked in person last year, I learned a lot from you. Like mind-ninja tricks.

I think if you could put together a step-by-step copywriting course (video/training series), you would never have to "work" again PLUS (and more beneficial to "the rest of us") you would be teaching us a highly-valuable skill that we could carry with us the rest of our lives.

From the posts of yours I've read - plus the articles I read in The Net Effect and on your blog - I think you've got some good things to share and teach.

There's two ways to approach this - and you already know this. You can either take the 'follow your bliss' approach - write/blog about something that you absolutely love and have passion for, and build your tribe doing that.

Or you take the Eugene Schwartz approach - find a demand that already exists and channel that demand.

Either works. The first way is probably a longer way to build a business but ultimately more satisfying. The second is a bit more of a 'work for hire' kind of scenario. Probably you'll get quicker returns.

The ideal scenario of course is if you can marry both of those scenarios - then you're writing/blogging/teaching about something you love and channelling an existing demand for it! Win-win.

HTH. Be interested to see where you go with this.

      Hi Colin,

I've not had the pleasure of speaking to you yet but I have heard from a number of people you're a guy well worth listening to.

I'm not a 100% what I need to know now, we often don't, until we need to do it.

I'll go and have a look at your blog. One thing I am interested in is the webinar Jason mentioned. Is that on the blog or available anywhere?

I'd be very interested to hear what you say on it.

Meantime, it's nice to have met you.

Just take a look at all the threads here and you'll see many recurring questions. That is a safe bet as to what people want.
