I just installed it today on

    I also use GSite crawler.

Google Sitemap Generator for Windows :: GSiteCrawler

Most of the sites I use it for have 100,000 pages + and takes a few days to make a good xml sitemap but it works automatically

For every site, Google sitemap is a necessity indeed.
If you are creating a blog with WordPress, you can try some plugins relevant to Google Sitemap; If not, you can create your sitemap with some free tools (Which can be found on the Internet).

Whatever type of content management system your using - get a sitemap generator designed it, and not a generic sitemap generator.

If you have a generic sitemap generator, it might leave out important URLs - such as a tags page, or a category page.

If your using drupal, get a sitemap generator designed for drupal.
If your using wordpress, get a sitemap generator designed for wordpress.
If your using vbulletin, get a sitemap generator designed for vbulletin.
