I think it depends on the name itself and how you've optimized it. I have lot of names not making much money. Anyone knows how to develop them names?

I never park domains, since we create some auto blogs. It depends on keywords and traffic.

Parking versus developing domains depends on your return on investment over time which is very much a function of your individual skills, interests and resources in addition to the domain name in question.

On the one hand you might make more money from a domain if you develop it into, say, an affiliate site than if you simply park it. But what if you are more skilled at finding monetizable domains than you are at developing them?

In that case, let's say you can make a profit, on average, of $10 per domain from parking per month and you can find and park 100 domains per month. That's $1,000 per month from parking.

On the other hand you can develop (or get a team to develop) 20 sites per month and it takes you 2 months for each of them to make you $50 in profit (i.e. each site makes $25 per month after the costs of buying the domains and developing them). That's $500 per month - less than parking.

Now, I made these figures up and you can equally make up figures to argue the case in favor or development. (And I personally favor development over parking) .But the point is that it's not just a question of which approach is better... it's a question of which approach is better for YOU.

Some people are much, much better at finding and buying domain names and, frankly, would rather just do that than developing them into sites. Others would rather be handed a quality domain name and spend all their time building a site. Others would rather do SEO. And on it goes. So remember to put yourself in the picture when you ask whether it is worth pursuing one strategy or another.

P.S. If you are interested in buying and developing domains let me encourage you to get a free membership to Domainer Income (Find, Buy and Monetize Expired Domains - Domainer Income). It's a domain name investment platform we recently launched and the free membership alone will be very useful in helping you work out a solid domain parking/development/monetization strategy.

    No.

    Not for me anyway

There is always much more money to be made in developing a domain, even if only slightly to put something in place for traffic...

If you have time to create a site then I would go for that over domain parking even if the site is thin.

Personally I have never got much out of domain parking but that isn't to say it isn't worthwhile. If you have loads of domains and not enough time to develop them then park them temporarily as they are better parked than doing nothing.

Exactly, some people register 100 domains and can't work on them all at one time, so while they work on a project, they park the domains they can't work on yet. Rather make a little bit than let it just sit there.

It does depend on the domain name and the parking company you use. I have some domain names with Parked.com and they do okay.

Basically, I have too many domain names to develop. I park them in the hopes of generating SOME revenue until they can be developed or sold.

The key with domain parking is type in traffic or already existing traffic otherwise it would not make you much money. However it does make sense to park a domain till you get time to develop it so it might cover the reg fee at least.

There is so many different domain parking providers out there and some of them are better and pay more than others. I have around 10 domain names that are waiting to be developed and I have moved them around from one parking provider to another.

Now I have parked them with WhyPark and they seem to be quite good as they let you optimize the domain name for keywords and you can display third party and affiliate links or banners on them.

You can also display your own content and they also provide you with content so you get little mini site with lot of pages up in minutes.

You can even use Google analytics on them and once you have optimize it properly it does not even look like a parking page but rather like a mini site.

There is one domain I have parked with them so you can see how it looks. SecurityIndustry.info

This one makes around $ 5 a month and for 5 minute work to set it up it's not bad.

It depends on the domain name. I would rather have a domain developed unless you're sure that it really good and optimized - then it might be worth something.
