Why Twitter shows over capacity many times

Hey Warriors,
In these days I notice it. When I try to change some settings in profile, It gives following error.
"Twitter is over capacity" Please wait a moment and try again.

Since It's a popular site, why can't they manage it?

Maybe I am alone in my attitude to Twitter but I only use it to create and build relationships. I never try to sell anything on this site.
Twitter is an unbelievable way to make contact with people who you may never have had the chance previously and so I cherish the opportunity and by building relationships it may well one day create a great JV opportunity or a fantastic learning experience if your Twitter relationships develop into email contacts.

In Technical Term: You are getting this message because you are being redirected to Twitter's 503 page (503 Service Unavailable page).

An HTTP status code 503(503 Service Unavailable) indicates that twitter Web server is currently unable to handle the request because of a temporary overload or maintenance of the server.

Sometimes twitter traffic is very abundant and its Web server is unable to handle the amount of request in very short period of time.

Plus with all the sms messages makes it even harder for them to maintain.

Nice explanation. But other leading web site can manage these kind of issue. I guess twitter can't spend such a big amount of money to maintain it.

with the amount of traffic they're getting and how they just blew up pretty much overnight, it's not unforeseeable that they can't handle it. They'll catch up soon, or a big company will buy them soon, and they'll have the resources to handle all the traffic.
