Someone has stolen my site.

I was the owner of Meego's, Meegos, MSN Meegos, Free Meegos, Messenger Meegos. but I forgot to renew the domain before it was expired so it was my fault for losing the domain. Fair enough.

But somehow, I dont know how the actual contents of my site is stolen for the domain he got hold of. I own the design and content and source file of that site, so that person should not have the right to use it even though he manage to get hold of my domain.

what can I do from here ?

If it happened recently maybe the person is still linking to your stuff and simply didn't get around to changing anything.

It looks like to me they just have a cached page and that is all ... If you click on the links on the header you will get 404 errors..

Have not checked but it could be the register that has ahold of the name..

Then the person did steal your site and added a bit so he can profit from it. report him to his host. use the whois database and see if you can find the info there.

They have swiped your index page and graphics as well as the downloads but they didn't take the supporting pages

    I would report him

You must still have the files on your hosting account? You can prove that was your site using those files (since yours are complete and his only has the index page) perhaps you can get your domain name back.

They probably went into the WayBack machine and copy/pasted the index page...

The contact info is there on whois - contact that person to remove your copyrighted material. I'd do this before filing complaints. I've seen this happen many times and often it goes unchallenged because the domain and site were abandoned.

Looks like they registered the domain in June - did you just notice it? Or was the info only recently added?

Teo: It looks like someone from Ohio registered freeMeegos.net on 6/22. I am PM ing the info to you. It contains a name, address, & phone number. I would get in touch with him right away before he starts selling your property.

Also call Godaddy. They do this to people quite often.

What has always worked well for me in these situations is sending a DMCA Takedown notice to the hosting company they are using.

99% of the time it works like a charm.

      1. GoDaddy dont even rip down warez forums let alone a simple little one page that someone claims to be theirs. Please go read their terms, they are very informative and very very detailed down to the letter of the law. ALL TO PROTECT THEMSELVES, NOT THEIR CLIENTS.

      2. Proof of ownership, hosting will require this copyrights

      3. You need to have a court order for a host to rip anything down, otherwise the host can be sued.

      4. In order to get a court order you have to file paper with your local magistrates office.

      5. May need to get a laywer involved, this depends where you live.

      6. You must notify the other party that you intend to file papers, registered and delivered to their home address (not email).

      7. Your wasting your time ... Forget about it and go on about your business..

I have had to send many DMCA Takedown notices. It's worked like a charm every time. Now I'll admit sometimes you do need to play the total jerk to get your point across, but it does work if you follow through.

Point being Rob is they dont have to rip down nothing just because you ask. Most host will not either.. As a web developer I know this all too much and learned the hard way in my ealier years on how to protect what is mine.

Sorry it does not seem to work for you. Here is some great information on the subject you can use the next time it happens to you.

FAQ about DMCA Safe Harbor Provisions -- Chilling Effects Clearinghouse

Read about safe harbor real carefully. Sometimes you have to bully hosting companies and point out what can happen if they don't comply. Of course this is for US hosting companies and hosting companies the US has treaties with.

It does work and they do take down sites if you follow the DMCA takedown procedures correctly.
