For those that don't have Dragon Naturally Speaking but have Win 7

Some of you may already know this but I just thought I'd
point it out.

I've got Dragon Naturally Speaking but lost my cd and license
key when I bought a new computer with Windows 7 installed
and found that Win 7 comes with something similar to DNS
built in for free. All you need is a head set.

Go to Start, then search "speech recognition" to find the
program. Then spend 10 minutes training it and you can then
write your articles or whatever just by speaking.

I've found it to be pretty much as good as DNS so it's a great
alternative if you don't want to shell out for DNS.

I can write an article with this in 2-3 minutes and then spend
2 minutes editing it so it's a huge time saver if you write articles.

It's free so if you've got Win 7 then give it a go!

Anyway just thought I'd point this out.

Will

wow.. tecHead didn't even know that one. <gasp>

I haven't had a chance to play around with Win7, yet. I just loaded it after a crash and have been steady working, since.

So thanks... I didn't wanna buy DNS anyway...

I am running Windows Vista, and I have the speech recogniton as well.
I just go into control panel and it is there. Take a quick tutorial and train the computer and you are good to go.

    Hope this help Vista users.

Windows Vista has it too but when I tried to use it the results were extraordinarily bad. My copy of DNS 10 works fantastically but with the Vista built in speech recognition I have trouble getting 1 sentence done accurately.

Hmm, I don't know if the Win 7 is different to the Vista version
but I've found it very good.

It's not perfect, sometimes it gets words mixed up even though
I speak them clearly which is why I spend a couple of minutes
        editing afterwards.

I'd agree with you that it's not better than dragon but seeing as
I lost my license code and cd I find the Win 7 one good enough
        to use.

That's great that it works well for you and I don't blame you one bit for using it after loosing your disk and registration code.

For me though, since I get terrible results with the Windows speech recognition program I would run out and buy Dragon Naturally Speaking again in a heart beat.

I originally had DNS version 9 and I loved it but it wouldn't work when I bought a new computer. It wouldn't work with a 64 bit machine. That's when I gave the windows speech program a try and for me it was god awful so I went to the store and picked up DNS 10 preferred immediately.

Wow - Thanks! I have had Windows 7 on my new computer (about 1 month old) but I have not had a chance to investigate everything. I went from XP Pro and skipped Vista. I love Windows 7. My headset and mic are shot so I am going to get one right away. I saw one advertised on Skype that I might try. You would think they would know about a top brand.
