This question comes up regularly on this forum so you are not the only one experiencing this problem.

The only way we can help is for you to start by telling us what you are doing to get traffic.

So what are you doing on a daily basis to generate traffic???

Keep going break thru the wall. I haven't made that much but I have made some money. I made about 130 dollars so far. I was picking the wrong keywords for a while. Make sure you are using buying keywords. I also kept starting projects. I decided to stick with the one and then I got my first sale. It takes a lot of work to get traffic I have found out so far. These are the things I did wrong so don't make the same mistakes. I'm gonna keep going because I believe there is gold at the end of this road. I have a day job and i'm beat when I get home so I try to do as much as I can. These are my experiences with internet marketing.

If you're not getting any traffic, you're probably missing some basic stuff.

What have you tried / are trying to get that traffic? If you could give away a little more information, we could help better.

      That's not an answer.

      How are you building backlinks?
Which keywords are you targeting and why?
      What are your 'web properties'?

Without detailed specifics nobody can help you.

And don't be afraid of giving your business away - if it isn't working, who would want to steal it?

I seem to be in a similar position as bluffblaze. Apart from back linking, I'm using twitter and hubpages. My site has a google rating of 6. One of my keywords which has high search volumes is on page 1 of google, but this does not seem to have had a dramatic impact either.

Give article marketing a serious go.
      Try this for one month:

Write 1 short 300 word article a day on your subject. Try to get inside the mind of your reader and gently persuade them that they need what you are selling...(don't write that exactly in your article though or it won't get published)

Then submit your 1 article to 10 quality aricle sites each day.
      Here's the maths:
If each article gets 10 clicks in its lifetime, that means you are getting 100 clicks a day (10 each from your 1 article submitted to 10 sites).
This will take some time, but if you commit to writing 1 article a day for 30 days, that will mean your link is out there 300 times. If each article gets clicked 10 times, that's 3000 hits.
If your product is half decent you should get some sales out of that.
Try it, what do you have to lose.

And what you say helps how? Maybe you could share with the OP HOW he can make his first $20 instead of what you said above that's pretty worthless.

OP what is it you are doing? Do you have your own product or are you an affiliate? What is it you are doing to try to make money?

In order to make any money online you need to have traffic and conversions. If you are missing traffic then you will never have the conversions. You can have the greatest landing page in the world but if no one gets to it then it will never even have a chance to convert. If you have traffic but your landing page or website is completely sloppy then you will not have sales. You must have both tuned in strongly.

Traffic x Conversion is the KEY to success.

Since your problem is traffic, you are probably asking yourself how do I get traffic?

The #1 way to get traffic is to get involved in the community of your niche and build an authority status. STOP trying to strictly rely on the search engines for your traffic. Depending on what niche you are in, SEO is a long term plan. Get out there and start guest blogging on sites within your niche. You will build authority, get instant traffic AND build backlinks. Take your guest blog post and then spread that content around as much as possible with a link back to your main site.

There are SO many ways to get traffic! Just get the mindset of "traffic should be on autopilot" out of your head. Once you get the traffic down we will discuss conversions.

Don't give up, but also dont try and learn everything yourself, get a good mentoring program that will help you every step of the way. 98% of marketers FAIL because they are stubborn and try to learn everything themselves, I know, I was one of them.

With all due respect, I disagree.

The War Room is great, sure, but since the OP has already picked something and is working on it; the plethora of (although good) information is only gonna distract him. There's no set structure to the information, so he'll more likely end up confused.

I didn't make a dime for my first 6 months of effort. I tried a couple of different ways and put in quite a bit of effort. I mostly worked with adsense. Looking back it was a complete waste of time. I had no idea what I was doing. At the same time my failures led me to my success. If I had made a little bit of money with adsense, I probably would still be doing it. Instead I found something that I am good at, and it pays my bills.

Earning money online takes a lot of hard work and there isn't a shortcut to do that, remember that. To push more motivation for you, just imagine how Marc Lindsay still works 12hours a day even if he's already making money! Also, you wouldn't know what to do right if you're not experiencing these problems so try to look back and see what you're missing.

Probably your website isn't recognized by the search engines yet because you lack keyword research or you lack content? Probably you also lack methods to improve your SEO like article marketing, social bookmarking, blog commenting, etc. There really are so many ways to start getting traffic and then build your lists to transform them as your potential buyers. Just take time and you'll earn soon.

    I hope this helps.

I was in the same boat until I did Dan Brock's profitzon method about amazon. One single article I wrote sold a half dozen appliances.
He's here at the forum, do a name search, a very well explained method, with follow by numbers type of teaching.
In the end amazon is not for me, the commissions wouldn't feed a budgie. What I did gain was a firm knowledge that this stuff does work.

What are you doing to generate traffic? are you consistent on doing it every day? A lot of people are struggling online, just like me when I first started. I'm not saying that I'm earning thousands of dollars every month, but I simply didn't give up, so I'm earning right now enough to pay for my bills.

I suggest to start building your list. List building should be the number 1 priority. If you have thousands of subscribers in your mailing list, you don't need to exert much effort in SEO. They say that the money is in the list. I understand that you still need traffic to build a list. In my case, I'm also not generating thousands of traffic every day, in fact, I only generate around 50-100 visitors a day to my squeeze page, but I'm getting 7-12 subscribers per day. Do the math and how many subscribers will I have after one month?

Once you have at least 500 subscribers, start doing some ad swaps to exponentially grow your list. Start creating your products as well and let your subscribers promote your products and offer them a very generous commissions. If you have hundreds of affiliates promoting your product, do you think you still need to be on the first page of Google? I guess not. If you are able to be on the 1st page, then it's just a bonus.

List building is really the key online. I've never seen someone earning $5,000 and above per month without a list and just relying on traffic.

      Hope this helps.

Agree with the last poster there, nothing suceeds like success, as they say and seeing those first few dollars coming in is a huge boost psychologically.

I will give you my own experience. I have been at IM for five years. First year and a half I made squat. The square root of squat to be precise. I spent, I chased, I hopped from one shiny thing to the next shiny thing and I blew cash and spun my wheels.

I then threw out everything and started from first principles. I stuck with one system until it worked, granted it yielded only a little but I clearly thought, if this makes money I will scale it up as if my life depended on it, which I did and then in due course I outsourced it. Thats my biz model in a nutshell.

Find something that makes even a dollar a day and don't think, "aww, screw this, a dollar" think - "well what if I did this a hundred times a day" etc and then get someone else to do it for you.

Granted this is leaving out a lot of blood, sweat and detail to be sure but the premise is sound. I can say that only because it worked for me and today I make a very good living doing only this.

Plus, don't ever ever ever give up. This is not the inspirational part by the way, where I load you with the cliches but I know form my own experience again that if you keep pushing, something will give and you will make some money which will lead onto the next thing and so on.

Hope that helps in some way

        Hi Buffblaze

        Do not give up .......

Not so long ago i was in a similiar situation. Although it never crossed my mind to give up. I was suffering from what i now know to be "Information Overload"

I was trying everything! all the latest gurus gizzmo's, you name it i was looking at it.

I now know that focus is a big key to success online. It is so easy to be distracted by the next big thing that comes along looking for the easy option!!!

I have to tell you right now that there is no easy option. To make a living online takes a lot of hard work, but it should also be fun

I think you should clear your mind and focus on the path you want and then stick at it ... Do not be distracted and you will get where you want to be. I know that is easier said than done but it is an important part of becoming successful in any walk of life.

I have only just joined this forum, (although i have experience from a similar forum) and from what i have seen so far this is a great place to be to find a lot of the answers you are looking for.

I wish you nothing but the best in all your endeavours and if i can help in any way i will gladly do so.

        All the best

Bringing the right traffic is what everybody needed to make money, and is not easy, it takes a while to gain that.

The problem is the gurus with all these programs and solutions for newbies. Gurus are only good for those who already have a clear map of where they are going. Newbies don't have a clear map, so they will be picking and dropping ideas from guru to guru

What you need to do is to be sure of what you really want to sell online. That is what Internet Marketing is all about. Find the product you want to sell, identify your potential buyers, find a way to tell them about the product/service and build relationships.

If you focus, put an effort and make informed decisions, you will succeed on line. Are you sure this is what you really want to sell online? If so write articles daily, submit them, write your blog posts, create white papers, free reports, network on twitter and facebook, give value, etc

If you niche permits videos to be created, go for it. Know what you want to do first. Once you know, you have solved half of your problems. Have a vision of where your business would like like in the future and create a strategy to get there.

Don't give up. Don't give room to distractions. Believe you can do it. Model those who have already gone before you and succeeded. What did they do, what is their secret? etc

if you offer value, people will notice.

You don't have to write articles, you can outsource.
You don't have to design a blog or website, you can outsource.
You don't have to create reports, white-papers, etc, you can outsource.
You don't have to physically do the work yourself, you can outsource.

You can outsource if you have money of coz, but hey there are other people who can do things for you at affordable prices.

Internet Marketing works! It's not as difficult as many people think.

Don't give up whatever you do.

The number of times I went out with a short rope looking for a high tree you would not believe!!

For the first six months or so I suffered with total information overload trying to work out how to make $$$. The amount of information I consumed was unbelievable and I ended up totally confused.
You need to focus on one course of action and do not deviate else you will go down many dead ends and get nowhere.
Decide on a plan of action and do nothing else until you have exhausted that course but be aware of maybe the shortcomings of your action plan and tweek and change as necessary.
The knowledge I gained from the Warrior forum - just by reading on a daily basis was considerable - read, read and read and you will get very useful information.
My first breakthrough was some 18 months ago when one of my eBay sites started to come good. You can maybe imagine how I felt when I started earning on a daily basis - not much, but DAILY!! Everyday during that first month I had a return - that same website is still earning on an almost daily basis!!
I have moved on from that website now and spend most of my time building up several affilliate, content websites which are coming good.

I still get considerable pleasure from looking at the returns for that first website. In fact it's the first thing I do every morning! - it sets me up for the day.
Just keep going and don't allow yourself to deviate - keep focused on a plan of action and stick with it.
      Best of luck.

      Hey,

I wasn't making any money for my first 15 months or so online.
So,i'm not surprised to hear you've been struggling.
But it IS possible to make money on the internet,so don't give up.
Just give yourself the time to make mistakes and don't be too hard on
yourself because, with a rare exception, everyone who's making good money today was through the same phase as you.
Choose your route, stick to it for at least half a year and don't jump
from product/opportunity to product/opportunity and eventually you'll see a breakthrough - that's the way it works.

      Cheers

Often times it can take awhile to get sites ranked in the search engines, even if they have good content and you are building links.

I would of course continue to work on improving your rankings, but I would also focus on other ways of getting traffic. Here are a few to get you started, and all they will cost you is your time.

    1. Article marketing- write articles and post them to popular article directories (after you put them on your own site). Don't worry about duplicate content, because you will not be putting your article on the same domain multiple times.

    2. Forum marketing- Find forums within your niche and contribute to the conversations. Just search your niche+forum and you will find a ton of them most likely. The key with forum marketing is DON'T SPAM!

    3. Classified ads- This may not get you a ton of traffic, but it is responsible for some traffic on a monthly basis for many of my websites.

The search engines are not the only way to generate traffic, in fact, many people generate a ton of traffic to their websites and never even use Google. Make sure that you do not pin yourself in a corner by just trying to get traffic from Google.

Let me ask you a question.

You've worded your post so that I get the impression, especially from the
title, that you don't believe that anybody makes money online.

        So here's my question.

Have you ever purchased anything online...ever?

If the answer is yes, then that's the answer to your question. YOU took
money out of YOUR wallet and gave it to SOMEBODY.

So somewhere out there, people are making money online.

I can't even begin to tell you all the stuff I've purchased online from
        DVDs to nail clippers.

        The key is simple.

Get a product or service in front of people who are willing to spend
money on that product or service
        .

It isn't complicated. But if you screw up anywhere along the path (traffic,
offer, copy, etc.) it can be close to impossible.

Everything has to be in place and as professionally presented as possible.

Think about it. If YOU went to a site that looked liked utter crap, would
        YOU buy anything from it?

Put yourself in the shoes of the prospect and think about what YOU
would want to see before buying something.

When I started using common sense I started making money. In other words, put yourself in the shoes of the guy typing a keyword phrase into google.

If he's typing "lose hair" he's doing research.

But if he types "buy Profollica hairloss treatment" he could literally be tapping his credit card on his keyboard.

I'd suggest signing up for the free homestudy video course here:
    Buyer Keywords Generator

You don't have to buy their software, just the free videos alone will hammer into your skull the importance of ranking for BUYER keywords.

    Buyer keywords.

If you lacking traffic you need to work a lot harder than what you've been doing. Start working on article marketing, do more backlinking like blog commenting, forum posting and start your own blog as well and start working on sending qualified traffic to them. Most importantly you need qualified traffic not just traffic.

I remember several of my friends and relatives practically laughing at me for the first few years of my online career. My income per hour for the first several years was absolutely less than a dollar per hour. Now, 15 years later I'm self-employed and living 100% off my web income in a resort area of Florida. I'm far from rich but I'm living the life that those friends and relatives only hope they will be able to enjoy in a couple of more decades. They're sure not laughing at me anymore.

But don't get me wrong! It was hard, hard work to get to this point. I had to live a poor man's life for a few years. As I said, I was ridiculed by others. There were many times that I doubted whether I'd ever be able to live off my web income but I kept at it.

Anyway, as I see it, being an online entrepreneur has many similarities to becoming a success offline. If you aren't afraid of hard work and sacrifice, you can succeed. If you don't expect miracles overnight, you can succeed. If, like most people, you keep looking for that way to make "easy money", you'll almost certainly fail. The "easy money" comes after the hard work and sacrifice, not right away.

It can certainly be discouraging, but don't give up hope.

Maybe just getting your FIRST $100 over the net would be a help? You can do that today.

This might sound corny, but bear with me, sometimes just the realization that people really do look through the net for things and making that first $100 is huge....

So just look around the house for something you don't need, and sell it on Craigslist. I know it sounds corny, but just that simple little trick has helped several of my friends to get going.

There is some great advice in this thread. I don't know how many stories I've read about people who worked for months or even years before finding the success formula. Then all of a sudden it all came together. It seems to be a common experience.

The point has already been made on this thread: Don't ever give up. It's hard when you start because you must have faith. It's hard to keep on believing when nothing is happening. But the fact is that success is unavoidable for anyone with half a brain and a ton of persistence.

    Hang in there!

My best advice is to not worry so much about making money online in the beginning but to focus all your efforts into building a list of buyers that you can sell to in the future. This sounds cheesy but a great man once told me "He who has the list, makes the rules". In the internet marketing industry that is very true. But, building a large list of "people" can be very easy while building a list of "buyers" from a targeted niche is far more important. That is because it is harder to sell to random people than to be bought from people who already know and trust you. Wouldn't you agree?

      Good advice here.

Also instead of ask yourself "how much genuine value am I providing to others?"

(You can provide value in the content you use to create backlinks, on your website and in a whole variety of other ways).

The answer to that question: "how much genuine value am I providing to others?" can give you some huge clues as to why your money making efforts aren't working.

      Kindest regards,

      Couple tips:

      1) Ask some people close to you to review what you are selling. Is it good? Is your marketing presentation good? Ask basic questions. You may have a poor quality product / service, poor marketing (like site navigation doesn't work, etc.)

      2) Target your audience: Who would want what you are selling? Find out where these buyers are and seek ways to communicate with them. Many buyers don't even visit article directories, for example. And higher priced items / services often need more than a squeeze page to sell - -they need About Us info, complete Contact info, autoresponder with tips / news and follow up, etc. Having a site that ranks PR5 doesn't mean you are even attracting the right audience or if you are, have the means to capture leads and close sales. A PR1 site can do that, even much better. Links alone aren't everything.

      3) Seek help from a coach or mentor. Search here in this forum for some, for starters.

      Here's to your success!

Not to rant but these kind of posts drive me nuts. Yes of course people are making money.

I had like $700-$800 in sales today.

Just like a job you need to work at it. You need to build your website, promote and market it properly, provide a good service or product for your clients and rinse and repeat.

There is no magic formula its just work.

So stop complaining on this forum and get to work you will be amazed what happens.

PS: It also does not happen over night. It took me years to build up a substantial daily income from the internet but that is the same with offline business too. So get to work and work hard.

    Good luck

you've just got to be persistent and follow a proven strategy :-)

I'm not saying your one of these people, but often people think the internet is a quick fix to riches, when of course it can make you a lot of money a lot quicker than anything else, but only if you learn exactly what your doing.

Instead of mastering "how to make money online" try and pick an area that you want to specialize in, whether it be building a list...or niche blogging, and then work hard at getting to know as much as possible about that 1 subject.

Making money online isn't generic, its a very broad subject

I gather you are not spending money to get traffic then, traffic is the lifeblood of an internet business & you can get it faster by paying for it If you feel, you dont have enough to pay for it at the moment, use Facebook, I created groups with over 6,000 people in two months, use twitter. Submit articles, press releases & do youtube videos.

I didn't make any money myself for my first six months online, just persevere & remember it would take alot of hardwork without any monetary investment but It can be done

Just use what you can do to sell, sell a product, sell your expertise, but don't bother with information marketing or any rubbish like that.

I was surprisded my account was still here as I'd forgotten about it until someone pointed me to this post.

Probably have my account shut down for being honest, but its happened to a number of others on here so I heard so obviously they don't like people telling you the truth.

While I'm new to Internet marketing, I've been working online for a year and a half now and treating it as a business. Before that, I dabbled in making money through product reviews, which I started in 2000.

If you're not getting traffic, you're not going to get people to look at what you have, let alone buy. How do you get traffic? Quality content. Lots of quality content. Since January 2009, I have produced 310 articles for one site, 131 Squidoo pages, and many blog posts. I joined Ezinearticles on the 28th of June and have written 15 articles so far (my goal is to produce 100 articles for their 100 article challenge; it is already starting to drive traffic to my other sites).

Just through that, I've made money, without thinking like a marketer.

Some things that I do don't work. They don't get much traffic, let alone sales. However, sometimes you run across something that works really well, but you have to keep working at it. A Squidoo page that I created over Labor Day Weekend has already sold 95 books... the commission on each book isn't very high, but it's something.

I still make about $1 an hour, but my monthly payments trend upward. It's a lot of work, but most businesses are not profitable when they start. Most people have to spend money to make money. I had to fill out a schedule C my first year.

Keep learning, and keep working while you're learning. I know that other people make a living online; I don't see why that can't be me.

You might want to try out a site like Squidoo. You can create backlinks to your site there, earn money for having a "lens" up, and sell things in your lens.

It's not that difficult if you're willing to put some focused effort into it for a while. Bear mind that you're not going to make instant profits, remember that your goal is to build a long-term business, and not just fool around with some type of 'overnight' riches crap.

Don't expect instant gratification, especially when promoting offers using free strategies such as SEO, but instead knuckle down and work on it for at least several months until you get tangible results.

I made this mistake, and got caught up in the FAMOUS "information overload syndrome".....(something you surely don't want to do). You end up getting overwhelmed and confused.

Not one dime eh? Well, I hope you are not being literal with us. If your goal is to make a FEW pennies. Well, slap some ad sense on your web pages.

How to get traffic? Provide a useful service. Like an ocr scanner. Also, you can give people free pics. Create some awesome icons.

There is another way. Get people to come to you. For example create a stellar computer program or an app. People will come to down load it from your web page.

Basically, the key it to give some thing of value to your users.
