Processing $ Through 1-800 Number.

INTERNET MARKETING

Does anyone here have any experience with selling info products through a 1-800 number?

How does the process usually work? Do they collect their credit info, and send it over to you to charge?

Would be interested in knowing the process taken - as I need it for one of my products.

Steve,

1-800 numbers can ring directly into whatever number you like. Think of it as a redirect. They're cheap, too.

When people call our 1-800 number and purchase we send them an email with a PayPal invoice. Actually, PayPal sends them the invoice.

They fill in their CC details, hit send, and we get paid.

You can also get a Virtual Terminal from PayPal where you take the CC info and handle it on your end.

The whole process is really simple.

  The best way is through Paypal. The only other alternative, that I know of, is through your bank, and that can get to be expensive.

I really like the paypal approach - do they stay on the phone with them when the email invoice is received - all the way till they make the purchase?

  PayPal is only a third party in the transaction. They serve only as your merchant account.
  
  Perhaps I need to be more clear here...
  
  YOU: Have a 1800 number...
  
  The customer calls your 1-800 number and speaks to YOU or your call center. (You can be you own call center)
  
  The customer orders from YOU.
  
  YOU get their email address and go to your PayPal account and fill in the information for the sale. When you hit the SEND button through your PayPal interface, PayPal sends the email to your customer. (You never see their credit card info.)
  
  Your customer then fills in their credit card info and sends the email back to PayPal. PayPal then notifies you a payment has been made.
  (Note: This can take anywhere from a few minutes to as long as it takes for the customer to fill out and send the PayPal email back through the system. One hour, one day, one week, whenever.)
  
  Once you receive the notice of payment (or before if you are comfortable with your customer) you can send the customer the merchandise/download link or whatever it is they bought from you.
  
  The other alternative that PayPal offers as a merchant account is what they call a Virtual Terminal. The VT allows you to process the customer CC in real time over the internet.
  
  This allows you to skip the email dance. Customer calls YOU, orders your product, you get their CC info and enter it into your VT account. PayPal then accepts or declines the transaction and you either give the customer access or your condolances.
  
  One more thing to consider is accepting checks or money orders for payment. We do it all the time, and it works for us. Your milage may vary.

A really great service for this type of thing is ringcentral.com . They have alot of great phones services- like purchasing local numbers and routing them through your (or your virtual assistants') computers. What are some other good companies to buy 1-800 numbers from?

Sounds like you are looking for a third party fulfillment center - your customer calls an 800 number that rings into the call center - they answer the call and take the order over the phone.

These can be pretty expensive, and usually are used in the case of a fairly high ticket item. Pricing can vary from a % to a flat rate fee, and they usually run the credit card charges through their own merchant accts.

I haven't used any in a few years but they are normally called 'fulfillment services' or 'call centers' and they usually offer everything from answering the incoming calls, to actually shipping your product if you have a physical product, or you can just have them email you the orders at the end of each business day.

Also, if you can process credit card orders yourself, consider letting people fax their info to you. That way you also get a signature.

With direct mail I let buyers send me a check or a creditcard form they fill out. I also give them the option of faxing back the CC order form with their info (and signature).

About half fax in their order.
