Hi all, just thought I would introduce myself and seek a bit of advice.

First off, I am a complete newbie. New to internet marketing, new to making money online and new to this whole scene.

Over the past few months I have been reading and watching Ed Dale's '30 Day Challenge', listening to Jay & Sterling's podcast and I have watched Ryan Deiss' big product launch. All great resources!

I am here because I want to make money. I want to make money ethically, but quickly. When I say quickly, I mean in comparison to my day job! I am prepared to work at it and, more importantly, learn from experienced marketers.

So what is the advice I am looking for?

Simple. Where do I start?

I am positive that by networking with similar people I can gain the knowledge and skills necessary without shelling out huge amounts of money.

I have looked at this forum and I see what appears to be a lot of experienced people talking about their businesses or offering pre-launch access to their latest products etc.

Is there a guide or course that anyone can recommend for a new player?

What about a program that I can be guided through - I am not looking for a free ride (I am prepared to invest my money but I want to do so knowing that it is a good investment), just a friendly mentor who can show me the ropes and answer a few questions.

I look forward to becoming an active member of this forum.

(Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere)

Hello, Gordon. My suggestion would be to first create two skills inventories. The first lists your skills/assets (and you have to be really honest with yourself) and the second lists the skills/assets required.

There are so many ebooks and guides out here purporting to teach you the secrets of the IM masters, it is truly dizzying. The real problem is separating the wheat from the chaff. All make the same claims, but all are not equally effective.

Another odd circumstance in this business - you'll get offers from people selling ebooks that promise success. Yet the people selling them are barely scraping by. It can be difficult to identify the folks who have actually been successful, but those are the one you'll want to work with.

    Best of luck. - Russ

    Hello Gordon,
Have you considered some type of mentoring program like Job Crusher?

I think the best way to get your feet wet is to dive in. Make a plan, pick a niche, and go for it. Whether you do affiliate marketing, article submissions, or whatever, taking the first step is usually the hardest. Once you get started, there are plenty of people here who are always more than happy to offer advice.
    Good luck to you.

The most important thing when you are just starting out is not to become overwhelmed. It all starts with two things "Traffic and Conversion". You just need to get prospects (traffic) in front of some type of offer that converts that prospect into a customer.

First you need to decide if you want to...

    • sell your own product
    • sell a merchant's product as an affiliate
    • make money with advertising (Adsense or selling ad space on a blog etc.)

After you make that choice you need to choose an offer then find a way to drive traffic to that offer. There are many ways to do this. I've written a free report about it. (below)
