Which Is The Best of These 4 URLs?

I just registered 4 URLs that will work well for me right now, but I wanted to get your opinion on which one folks here thought would work the best of the 4 for internet marketing purposes.

The site is about home audio recording. Our goal is to show folks how to record audio from home, especially those who have never done recording before. Our content will be written in plain, non-tekky language.

The 4 urls are:
-101recording.com
-101record.com
-101audiorecording.com
-101homerecording.com

If you were curious about learning to record and produce audio from home, which of the above would make the most sense to you as being relevant to that goal?

Any and all help appreciated greatly, as always.

Cheers!

Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Personally, I would go for 101homerecording.com because it has the main keywords "+home +recording" which might help.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Ken,

Personally I like 101homerecording as it gives more idea of what the site is about. Also that domain name would be useful if home recording is in the keyword phrase you are targeting.

  • Hi Ken,

101homerecording, is the best of the four, in my opinion. And that is the opinion of somebody who has thought about getting into home recording for a long time.

101recording.com in my mind, could refer to doing live recordings of bands. Or even voice/video recording for use on the internet.

101record.com reminds me of vinyl or the Guiness Book...

101audiorecording.com isn't all that bad, but sounds too professional to me. It suggests that it is geared to those that already have a good grasp of recording techniques and are looking for something more advanced.

    Hope that helps.

    All the best,
    Michael
  • 101record for its simplicity but others may attract keyword traffic.

    • In my opinion, 101record is the least effective of the bunch. It may be short, but the word record can be pronounced two different ways (depending if it's a noun or a verb), so it would depend on how the person reading it would hear it in their head. My guess is that about 50% would get it right.

I also agre that none of them are great, but of the four, 101homerecording.com is the best choice.

  • Ken,
Have you done your long tail and short tail keyword research ?

Why not go with a website name that is already keyword optimised given search volume globally/locally/monthly ?

Are you providing a solution ? product or information ?

    • I sent you a PM with a suggestion as well. But of the 4 you've shown, I like 101homerecording.com the best.
  • Of the four, I would go for 101homerecording as well since it's the most relevant when it comes to the "message" you are referring to. But, domain-wise, I should say it doesn't sound too compelling or "recalling" to most but I'm not so sure though. You can try what's been laid out in the Adwords Search Terms as well.
  • I imagine that 'home recording' is the key-phrase for which you will be competing, so my vote is for 101homerecording.com too!

    Will
  • i agree with 101homerecording.com
  • For me, the choice would be 101homerecording.com as it is the one which defines the niche you are going after. All of the others are quite broad and people might assume they could be commercial services promoting their wares.

When you are writing your content you will be using terms such as ".. home recording.." which will be easier to rank for than "recording" or "audio recording".

You would have done better to have "homerecording101.com" as it is better to have your keyword at the beginning of your URL but if it wasn't available que serah serah.

    HomeRecordingClub.com

    HomeRecordingIsTheBestAndIAmGoingToTeachYouHowToDo It.com
  • i think 101record will be great
  • Hi Ken,

Having a short, memorable domain is important, but you also need to consider off page factors and future TRAFFIC.

Here is another way to look at it:

-record gets $1.09 per click with 60,500 Exact Match
-recording gets $1.67 per click with 33,100 Exact Match
-audio recording gets $1.52 a click with 14,800 Exact Match
-home recording gets $1.76 with 6,600 Exact Match

There are many other factors to consider here. But lets assume you will get to #1 - your traffic can be more than 10 times that of the other domains you are thinking about registering.

    Hope this helps.

    • Simon,

I'm still learning (understatement of the year). Could you explain how you came to the conclusion that traffic can be more than 10 times the others? I see that "record" showed >60K where home recording showed over 6K. Is that what you meant?

      Thanks.

      Ken
  • Honestly I'm not sure it really matters what any of us "think" is best....

Test them with your target market.

See which one converts the best, then use it.

    Right?

  • I'd probably go with 101audiorecording.com since that is descriptive on what you're doing. Plus if you have a decent landing page people will know very quickly if it's what theyr'e after or not.

    • Thanks to everyone for their input! It really helps.

I also, thanks to a tip from an awesome warrior here, snagged "easyhomerecording.com."

Based on what I'm hearing, that one works better than any of the four I mentioned, agreed?

      Cheers,

  • Are these new domains meant to replace homebrewaudio.com?

    If so, I wouldn't.

The current name fits what you've described. The other 4 are forgettable and boring. If I went to the site once, I would probably never remember the name. Was it 101recording? 101audio? Too easy to forget.

On the other hand, homebrewaudio is something I'd more likely remember.

    • Dan - Actually the thought WAS to replace homebrewaudio! I get a fair bit of confused traffic with beer-making enthusiasts.

So what's more important? Having a memorable url? or having one that works well for SEO? I've gotten other advice telling me I should not use "homebrewaudio," so now I'm a bit confused, which is nothing new.

      Thanks!

  • I think 101audiorecording.com will better option .
  • All 4 look pretty good, why not grab them all?
  • Aside fromthe obvious answer which is to do the research and get some exact match domain names which are based on search phrases... I would say number 4 stands out to me as a person who always has an interest in home recording on the back burner and thinks of it occassionally. It just makes sense that a person would search for "home recording" if they had interest in what you offer.

Otherwise I would also add that, home recording 101 sounds more like a search than 101home recording"... have you tried homerecording for dummies? Might get some momentum from that one.

Ultimately, it depends alot on how you get traffic too. I dont know much about building authority sites but I once had a very successful online business that depended on viral word of mouth, and I never advertised online at all... the people who signed up for my opportunity did though, and we were dominating the first 3 pages of yahoo (yes this story is from the pre-google craze) for our key phrases (Modeling Jobs, Modeling Industry, Model casting calls...) 100's of affiliates had pages linking back to us from all over the internet, without us personally ever having to place an ad.

Good to know! I'll probably be in touch at some point soon. right now I have to figure out what to do with the urls I have.

  • Audio recording hands down, look at that traffic.

Whether its in the home or the office it still is essentially audio recording.

I think it and the stats prove it, more people look for A/R more than H/R
  • CPC+Keyword Tool or MNF or Keyword Ninja.

I find it absurd to not have searched keywords/purchase triggers in the domain title.
