What "Gurus" have you been following?

Probably all of us IM:ers have taken at least one, but more likely several "guru courses" ... I was thinking we could share which guru we appreciate the most. Who has given you the most value? And who´s advice have you actually taken action on?

This is an interesting question since there is an overflow of courses out there that promise you the stairway to heaven. So share with the rest of us your experiences, what worked, what did´nt.

    Hi Pat -

I have bought as many courses on IM as the next guy, but lately I have really been following Daegan Smith and I really gotta say - he is the real deal!

He truly provides as much detail as he possibly can, he walks you through his accounts and shows you what works, and he ALWAYS overdelivers.

    Absolute great mentor!

I have never read a single line that guy has written. We can´t know them all ... I´m in the state of taking action rather then keep jumping from one guru to the next. You can see in my signature what I´m into at the moment. On top of that I´m starting developing a outsourcers team to take on basically any kind of task.

Honestly, I read almost every single WSO offering over the course of the last 2 months.

I then moved to an isolated locations and created 60 services.

Now i'm sourcing VC to the tune of 6 figures.

There are gems on this forum. But if you look for them using your eyes, you will miss them all.

I don't subscribe to any one particular guru or group for that matter.

I trawl forums like these and soak up everything that I can, then put my twist on it. I also spend a great deal of time picking up tidbits from blogs.

So far, so good. Gurus became gurus because they hit the ground running. Some might have purchased courses or had a particular mentor but many were aggressive self-starters who consumed free content from as many sources as possible and ran like hell with it.

Before latching on to any one person I advise learning as much as you can about IM from various sources so you know who the experts are.

I really appreciate that you want to take part of my little poll ... I think one of the most important things that have to be re emphasized is the fact the most wanna be IM:ers don't ever TAKE ACTION!! Just jumps from one guru to the next, then to the next, and so on ... all of a sudden years has gone by ... And you find your self still in you bedroom in your underwear, reading, listening to yet another guru and his or hers good advice.

Taking action or not taking action, that is the quesion, and the answer to success or failure.

      Keep your experiences coming!

I do not follow any one 'guru'.

I typically like to read as much as I can, and research things. Then make an educated decision before putting time and money on the line.

You are a smart man, my friend.

I like to do things the same way, however, there have been times, where I have been lured in by a nicely written sales page. Interestingly, the sales pages that got to me were the genuinely written ones, without all that marketing crap most of clickbank products have..

I know this kinda off topic (the topic I started my self) but I have to say; ClickBank SUCKS, they may have the biggest market place for affiliate products, but why can´t they get with the program!?!?!? Meaning why can´t they implement PayPal into their system for god sake. I´m based in Thailand and it takes forever to firstly get the check over here and then another eternity for the Thai banks to cash the check ... The world is not just revolving around the US ... that is frustrating. I hope Mike Filsame grows paydotcom.com in a big way very very soon ... He´s smart enough to use PP for the payouts.

I have not bought any "guru" courses ... not since I bought the RJ ebook for $10. I consider Gene Pimentel and guru on domaining and I bought his excellent WSO, but it's not a course or even an ebook ...

I also read Paul Meyers newsletter and enjoy that. It's the only newsletter that I am subscribed to.

I have an e-mail account solely for the purpose of recieving emails from so called "gurus". The one's I stick with are the people who:
    1) don't e-mail me every day with crap content
    2) don't only send an e-mail when they've got a clickbank product to promote (i won't name names!)

I've been on the lists of some great marketers, but a lot more are obviously only looking to make another sale

DO mention names, why don´t you! That´s what this thread is about; the "gurus", and what we get or not get out of them in terms of value.

So, let´s define the term "guru", what makes somebody entitled to label themselves "guru", what criterias distinguish a guru from a non guru?

We can dig deep in to this topic my friends

none, yes i said none if you want to follow people take a look at the people that haven't reached 'guru' status yet, check out people like ian fernando, clint lenard, ppcmom, richard bonner, bryn youngblut, affiliatetwins, adhustler etc - you'll get much more from them than any guru.

Jobs is one of the coolest guys on the planet, and I´m NOT a guy that´s worshiping celebs ... I think he has a very impressive life story, and the products he puts is just ... the best there is.

And "selling an experience, not a product", is what it´s all about! To quote Kern (well maybe not exactly word by word); "A guy who buys a Ferrari doesn't buy a Ferrari, he buys the experience, the feel of driving a Ferrari".
