Is it possible to go OPTIN BOX crazy?!

So I'm just about to launch my first website and I was curious if what I'm doing it out of the ordinary...

I have an optin box on the sales page where they can receive 2 free video guides

So, I'll build up my "potential" buyer list.

Then, after they purchase, they are required to optin on the TY page.

The reason for that is because what they are buying are video courses. I'm not going to give them a download link since I have all the videos embedded within the website.

So they optin so I can email them a list of all the videos and they can save that email for future reference. I was going to put the list on the TY page, but how many do you think would bookmark it? Probably none.. even if I told them too. That would require me to handle a bunch of emails about how they purchased it but can't access it.

Anyways.. That will build up my "buyer" list.

Then I have an affiliate page with some banners and stuff.

But you can optin to be a "super affiliate" and have access to many more images/banners, keyword research, email templates, etc.

So I can build up my "gaming niche affiliate" list.

3 list I'm trying to build within one site.

Is that overboard?!

go for it now, and test it. If it's working then you can do it again.

  • For every site/product/niche I work on, I always have 3 lists: prospects, customers and affiliates. And on occasion I also split the prospects list depending on different factors.

Kory, what you propose sounds quite reasonable. Three lists, for three distinctly different purposes.

    One suggestion, though...

You may want to set things up so that people who opt-in to your buyers list are removed from your prospect list. Continuing to pitch a product they already bought harms your credibility at best and angers your customers at worst.

Some marketers take it to extremes. Every promotion has a new opt-in, and they don't de-dupe their lists. So if you are on ten different sublists, you get ten copies of every message sent. Very annoying.
