Mapping our members forum feature

I have an idea/suggestion for wf:

On a forum I used to frequent, there was a feature that could show where members lived geographically (not precisely, but so people could see who lived say within 30 mins of them). I don't know if this was done automatically my tracing ip addresses, or if members had to provide their location, but it would be a really cool feature to have here.

Kind of like the little business blips on google maps, except they could just designate a city, rather than a full address.

Any thoughts? Would be good for mastermind groups

Considering the number of members here who don't even list a country of residence - not sure that would be doable.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

That's doable of course, but it might be a massive load on the database.

They don't even have the members list thing here. That's probably because of the database thing, too. I'm not sure - just guessing.

Which is the other forum you're talking of? Is it vB?

For the mastermind groups, you can create a thread in the masterminds section and you should get quite a few (depending on where you live) replies. :-)

I think this is something that should seriously be looked into.

If high resources/workload is concerned, it wouldn't have to be done for every user. It could just map users who set their locations themselves
