Is there a self hosted autoresponder that would be good enough for a small sized list?

Hi,

Most people recommend the big boys of the AR world (AW, GR) when you have a large list, but I have a client with just a few hundred, so is there a recommendation that would work for him?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what niche etc, and how much he will be juggling the order of followup emails, what complexity is needed in automation etc.

The thing is that small list is going to possibly be halved with reconfirmation requests.

Depending on nature of business, Mailchimp do free up to 500 contacts and that might be more suitable, especially with some of their API integrations.

Is the list going to be stagnant? Or is it going to grow?

Try Mail Chimp, as Andy said - they are free for up to 500 subscribers and up to 3000 emails per month.

Not affiliated with them or using them at the moment, but I've been investigating possible alternates to the company my company (regular job, albeit online - we do newsletters) presently uses and I like them best of all I've looked at, aside from the one we presently use, which is still the best deal for my company - but not for a small newsletter.

If I ever go into NLs, that's who I'd use. I suspect a lot of people use Aweber because it has an affiliate program. (Mail chimp has one, kinda, but it only gives you credits to use against your account - no cash.)

For a self hosted one, try Ultimate Auto Responder Pro The price is $97, and has some pretty nice features. It is or was connected to another product (either free or $1 free trial, I forget which), but you can cancel the other product and keep on using the auto responder. the web address is www.ultimateautoresponder.com.
      Worth taking a look.

To be honest there isn't such a think a a good "self-hosted" list, as the opportunity cost (work) to maintain it is far higher than the cost of using a service such as Mailchimp (free up to 500)
