I think everyone has a lazy bone and to some degree wants things done for them. They want an Easy button.

However, I also believe that most people here are willing to work hard to achieve want they want, but a lot just don't know what to concentrate on.

There are too many ways to make money. There is always a new shiney WSO or product launch. There are always stories like $500,000 a month being made by PentyofFish , so a bunch rush to do that. Stories of the kid that sold the blog for $15 million, so people rush to do that. Stories of Eban doing millions with a dating product, so people drop things to go and do that.

I think what destroys hope more than anything is early failure.

A guy sees PlentyOfFish.com and replicates it, but makes hardly anything. He has spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars, but can't even seem to make enough to pay for the hosting. What he didn't see was the hundreds and thousands of hours and failures that the owner of PlentyofFish had. He also wasn't first but is in the mix with every other "me too" site.

All he wants is to make a decent living, but can't seem to catch a break. He spends thousands on courses, training, WSO's, new techniques, etc. but only gets more confused and discouraged. He/she is not lazy, not in the true sense. His/Her spouse is starting to call internet marketing a waste of time and money.

Is this you?

It is me to a large degree. My focus sucks and I know it. I don't know if its a fatal flaw or something good. People like me know a little bit about a lot of things because we are curious and get bored easily. It's more fun to buy a WSO or product about the "new thing" and spend days or weeks going over the material and believing we are making progress.

Who wants to write an article about the "old stuff" for the 99th time and submit it when I could be entertained by the new SEO videos?

People fail fast and that is the end of the road for their project, why keep working at something when failure already hit them, that is he mentaliy that most will have. Some have had instant failure as well but kept moving forward and stuck wth their plan.

These great stories like plentyoffish and that blog that got bought by the banks for 15 mill inspire people, but most can't sacrifice the time and effort to get their piece of the pie, we live in a push button/money drop world ..especially now more than ever.

To some degree, I think many suffer from the same syndrome. I know I have several lazy bones in my body. I've found that if I force myself to start work on a new site or start researching for new articles, the "lazy" gives way to motivation. If I just wait for motivation to strike - it won't.

    It comes down to this:

It's easy to dream. It's easy to plan what you will do with the money you will earn from the business you will build. You can dream laying down with your eyes closed and not lift a finger - but when you open your eyes, nothing has changed.

We've created a fallacy that working online should always be "fun" and "exciting" and it's not. There are always some things you don't like to do. Though it's easy to put off those tasks for "later" or decide they aren't necessary, those are often the actions that form a solid foundation.

When you set your own schedule as we do it's possible to spend 10 hours a day on forums, reading emails and blogs from lists you're on, and reading one sales page after another. At the end of the day, you "feel" you've put in a full day of work - then realize you accomplished nothing.

It's not limited to newbies either. Marketers can have downturns when what worked for a long time doesn't work anymore and can have problems getting back in gear. They may get bored, tired or lose their sense of purpose and let their business slide.

Probably the biggest mistake newer marketers make is expecting to accomplish in 30-60 days what took a successful marketer years to build. If you set unreachable goals, you will always be disappointed.

The easy button can be found on top of the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow - or on a winning lotto ticket.

      Interesting thread.

I wasted untold hours but never gave up. The spouse would complain I was wasting time month after month year after year. Until I did one thing.

I stopped trying to replicate the guru's. I am not saying don't follow their advice, I am saying don't try to carbon copy their results. Lets say it how many people will buy a WSO and the video or manual gives an example of a niche like 'dog clicker training'. How many people actually go out and create sites based on that niche ... lots.

This forum and WSO's are tools and nothing more. Use the tools and advice to build your own house not try to copy your neighbors. This is when things really took off.

As a side note... now the spouse will often ask how much I have made for the day when we get a chance to talk.

Too true, guess it means one should have a plan (map) and stick with it as it says in the Warrrior Slacker book.
There's no easy button, it's getting started that's the hardest to get the ball rolling.
    Thanks for the advice.

    Hi Scott,

I understand your feelings of frustration. I have had the same problem; tried lots of MLM's, web ideas, Email marketing, and the list goes on! But recently I discovered a course (it costs, mind you!). The key here is that I said to myself, I'm either crazy, or I'm committed! When I put a huge $ forward, I said I WILL take action, take advice from someone who knows, in stages as they come along.

My biggest problem is simply laying out a plan. Now I have someone who can help me with just that. He/she has laid out the steps in small baby steps. Now it's up to me to do them!

Also, the faster I move and the more I thereby demand of them, the more they like it! Because it will result in me making more money, faster. And in the end I will love them, and definitely send them a nice testimonial.

    Amen!

I had the same problem when i first started out. I wanted to become rich so fast and when i failed with something i just jumped to the next thing.. and the next thing. Eventually, i gave up on the "get rich quick" mindset and started to focus on one thing only. That was what saved me.

You are right man, that is just the problem. If we can concentrate and not too eager we will get there.

        Hi Scott,

Who wants to write an article about the "old stuff" for the 99th time and submit it when I could be entertained by the new SEO videos?
I picked up a quote from a really wise warrior from their forum and it struck a chord with me. It was along the lines of -

'Once you have the system, what you need to do next is probably repetitive and very boring. This is where most fail, and due to this, this is where the few really prosper.'

It struck a chord because it's so true.

We all (should) have different ways to overcome this and the other barriers.

Personally, I find that focusing on the pleasure of the rewards doesn't cut it (except perhaps yacht 'type' things).

But by focusing on the pain of finishing my 'stint' and having not achieved what I was born to achieve - (and the (extended) consequences of that) - and the experiences and consequent growth that could be missed out on - I find that much more motivating.

People are naturally lazy, this is a fact.. Many learn soon enough though that the "Easy Button" does not exist, some learn this the hard way and others learn it quick.

We live in a society that just wants to have something to believe in and when you are told you can make that $500,000 in 30 days most humans have the curiosity to atleast look into, some actually buy into it hoping that maybe this time they have a winner.

    2 Great Prime examples:

Newbies are all told how great Alexa.com is and how useful they are.. Download the toolbar, use the toolbar.. This tells you if a site is successful or not.. And so on and so on...

Well before long many think that this is truth and they follow along because they just have to have something to believe in and because top notch Filthy Rich Joe Guru told them this they think it must be true...

Sad cold hard facts is Alexa.com Ranking are worthless and many website developers have known this for years and have preached it to their clients over and over. To some degree finally after years people are starting to realize that Alexa.com is really useless and Joe Guru told a little white lie...

Same thing for WordPress blogs being hacked over and over but yet people are conditioned to believe if they just upgrade and backup they will be safe. Again this could not be further from the truth and many have learned the hard way.

A recent report by the Congressional Research Service stated that the financial impact of computer hackers amounts to $226 billion annually. Another report calculated that hackers could be taking up to six cents of every Internet dollar of revenue.

Does this statement effect very many people ? Does it make them think twice about security ? My answer to this is no.. Reason why is because 1. They have not been hacked yet and 2. wordpress.org Preaches Backup and Upgrade and thus since these people want something to believe in just like they did with Joe Guru, they ignore the facts and truth right in front of them.

We are conditioned to rinse and repeat because that is what is told to us by people like Joe Guru. When we realize we can actually think for ourselves and we can make it without listening to the Joe Guru's of the world, then our society will change for the better and you will see many more successful people that don't stop half way through doing something.

I have lived the life mentioned in the original post for far too long!

I tried many different ways to make money online, and at the hint of any failure I bailed out. It has always been that fear which kept me from going any further, thus I failed before I actually failed. To my knowledge this presumptuousness of failure could have been success in disguise, but that fear was too great to bear.

Every since I was young I have always been able to conquer my fears. For instance, I have a fear of height yet I overcome this fear by embracing it. I have come to realize that my emotional fears are no different than my physical fears. So, I am now embracing my fear of failure.

Currently I am working on my first information product, and I am overcoming that fear of failure every day I get closer to finishing the product. I truly believe that failure will not hold me in bondage anymore! This product will be finished on time, and whether it is successful or not I will still learn from my experience and build upon it for next time.

I know others have been in the same boat I was in, and I hope they too can realize failure is just part of success. Failure will happen, but how you deal with that failure determines the level of success you will reap.
