Can anyone help me - what is an Alexa Ranking and how do you get one?

This is the ranking that is provided by Alexa.com. This is based on the actual traffic going to a Website whereas Google PR is calculated mainly by the number and quality of inbound links to a specific page and not traffic.

You'll have to go to Alexa.com and register your site. Go to the website and do a search on your domain name. If for some reason it doesn't show up type in: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/yoursite.com where "yoursite.com" is actually YOUR domain name. Alexa monitors websites based on traffic and you can get widgets and stuff from their website to put on your domain showing what your rank is. Hope this helps.

Alexa Rank is pretty useless imho. It is easy to "work" the system. But basically the lower your Alexa rank, the higher your traffic is. For example, google is probably the highest trafficked site so will have an Alexa Rank of 1. The second most visited site will have an Alexa rank of 2 ( probably youtube ) and so on and so forth.
