How Would You Know The Number of Competitors?

Hey warriors,

I just need some help about keyword research. I have some idea about it. When you research for a certain keyword, how would you know the number of competitors for that keyword? I also heard that a good keyword must have at least 10,000 searches in a month and less than 1,000 competitors? Do you also go that way?

    Yes thats the main point I use to do for searching my competitiors and also search competitors who have avg. cpc between, or under 2$....

    To find competitors search for your keyword phrase in google using "allintitle:your keyword phrase". - That shows how many sites have that exact keyword phrase in their title, which is a heavy on-page factor.

    Also check for the pagerank and links your competitors have.
    I believe the criteria for going after a keyword varies a whole lot, so the answer to your question depends on you.

    I'd rather have 100 visits from people searching for "Buy electric scooter", than 1000 from "electric scooter". I'd also work harder for the first keyword, as it's a buying keyword.

    Though, I'd like to add that this method is not 100% accurate in all cases, and works best for long-tail keywords with little competition. It can still be a great pointer in most cases though
