Help me to profit from my blog

Dear fellow warriors!

Almost two months ago, I created HybridCarFreak.com - Most Useful Hybrid Car Resource Website The problem is I am having hard time making some profit from the website. I earned approx. $10 with Adsense so far, but then other warriors advised me to promote products from CB instead. So far, I didn't make any sales.

I don't have a lot of daily visitors, maybe between 20 and 30. Can anybody tell me what am I doing wrong?

Thank you!
Gellert

I would say that you need to work on your keywords and your content. Go through google and research some keywords that have low competition that you can target. Write an article for a keyword on the list each day, submit it an article directory and bookmark it. This will help you start to recieve more traffic.

Then I would suggest you create a newsletter. For an example you could provide customers with all the latest deals on hybrid cars and accessories. This would be effective in a niche like yours because of how expensive the products are that the customers are dealing with. Often times someone will need to see your website more than once. If you have them on your list you can get them to come back again and again.

Also, going to different forums inside your niche and making posts will also help to not only get traffic to your website, but add subscribers to your list. Hope this helps.

Gary, very nice looking site. What you didn't mention is what you are doing to promote the site. What methods of getting traffic are you using? Are you doing any article marketing to promote your affiliate products? That is one good way to get targeted free traffic to your site.

Instead of having the "email updates" sign up, offer a free report if they sign up, or as Ucheo mentioned, a newsletter. Make your optin more noticeable. Give people a really good reason to sign up.... "email updates" is not compelling. Then as you build your list you can promote affiliate products or your own products...you'll make far more money from those than from adsense. When you send out email updates, provide a lot of valuable free information. Don't just always try to sell something in every email...that gets old fast and people will start to unsubscribe. But if you give them value, many of them will remain on your list and buy when you do offer a product. Just my 2 cents worth....I'm sure many others here can give you a ton of other ideas also!

      Good luck with your site!

You need to get your traffic up. Try visiting other similar blogs and leaving comments. Ask the blogger if you could link to each other and give each other traffic. Post to forums and have your signature point to your blog.

    My Suggestion:

    1. If you are going to use the <!-- more --> tag on your post, be sure to make your title stand out.
    2. Provide opt-in Newsletter as recommended by UcheO.
    3. Write followup emails to promote car related affiliate product.
    4. You should create few more support blog network using unique articles from syndicate kahuna or articmemarketingautomation - The purpose here is to harvest more long tail keywords. Let those blogs age and look at your web stat, find some nice long tail keywords and focus on building landing page and back links for those keywords...
    5. Build up your blog traffic, see my blog post. You need a lot of traffic to increase your income, try article marketing and any means to increase your traffic!

    Hi Gellert,

Before making money, you have to increase traffic to your blog.

Do share with us what traffic tactics have you been using?

20 to 30 is really little and with one or two more consistent traffic generation should bring in more targeted visitors to your blog.

    Cheers,
    John

Thank you guys for the advices!

Now, I get consistently between 20 and 25 visitors a day. Most of them are coming from Google. The problem is, that I dont really have a plan on driving traffic to my site!

This is what I do! I occasionally submit an article to article directories (but then I am having a problem geting the readers click on the link in the resource box) and submit my new posts to digg.com

From time to time I also comment on other blogs and post posts on trehugger.com

(Please don't laugh at my strategy)

I will difenitely get rid of Adsense, but I need to find a good product to promote. I was/am promoting water4gas products, but I heard these products are not selling well anymore.

UcheO and Cali16, you really gave me a good advice on making keyword research and creating a newsletter!

Ian, I have a couple of link exchanges. Last week I sent out approx 10 emails requesting link exchange. Unfortunately, only one site owner responded! Can you tell me a proper way to request blogroll exchange?

Kkchoon, thank you for the advice. I visited the post on getting blog visitors on your blog and I really liked it.

John, I described above my "strategy on getting traffic."

    Have a nice day!

There are some tricks on using article:

      1. Do proper keyword research, write keyword focused article (Must be long tail keywords to rank well, I suggest you Google for "Bum Marketing Method" to learn about this technique)

      2. Spin unique articles and submit them to as many article directories using syndicate service like Unique article wizard to build back links and traffic.

If you want to build back links, I suggest you consider AMA - articlemarketingautomation, a large blog networks to host your uniquely spinned articles that provide valuable in content back links, link exchange just takes too much effort to do...

I personally like to see the full posts (no "read more") on the front page. It seems like all the big blogs do this. There must be a reason why!

Michael, I have never observed that! Could you send me a link or two to websites that have the full post on the front page?

    Thanks

No problem. Another thing I like to see is big images, especially if the blog has "read more" like http://www.engadget.com or http://www.gizmodo.com. Those sites just makes me want to click, click, click! Probably because of all the cool stuff.

Ok, now before you plan your traffic strategies, ask yourself where do your potential readers hang out at....

    where is the traffic source?

forums, organic search, article directories, discussion boards etc?

what are the content they are want and also willing to pay? (in short, what are the problems they are facing?)

answer these questions and you will naturally know what is your traffic plan.

    Cheers,
    John

You're apparently trying to rank for a very tough keyword, "Hybrid Cars", that has some formidable competition. You need to look at long tail keywords that you can rank for. Furthermore, you need to select buying keywords over informational keywords. You also need to optimize your titles around these keywords.

Try writing 10 articles with these titles and post them to your blog

      hybrid car cost
best hybrid cars for the money
how to buy a hybrid car
      best hybrid car prices
      hybrid cars for sale
      hybrid car prices
      hybrid car rental
      cheapest hybrid car
      hybrid car dealers
      used hybrid cars

Then go out and build links back to these articles using the same exact keywords. You should begin to see an uptick in traffic within a few weeks.

What's on your front page, excerpts or articles, and so forth does not matter to the search engine visitor, the kind of person who clicks ads. Site layout and design only matters to social referral visitors aka 'readers' or 'subscribers', the people who won't ever click an Adsense ad or an affiliate offer. Catering to search engine visitors rather than social referral visitors means the difference between making $1000 a month vs $10 a month.

Perfect way to start....this list of keywords also identify what the customers are looking for and what kind of product you should be developing to meet their needs/ wants.

        Cheers,
        John

Focus on one product only and remove all other distractions.

Then spend 99% of your time driving traffic to it.

You will need a lot of visitors before you see some good sales.

No No No...I say stick with "hybrid cars" if you want to rank for it.
You can rank for the long tail keywords by creating the appropriate categories on your blog.

Over the long run you will eventually rank for your main keyword.
Just make sure you link to your blogs inner pages.

The key is to build up to something.....that being your main keyword.
So what about the competition? Screw them. With dedication you will pick up enough traffic from long tail keywords and when the day comes when you land on the first page of the SEs for your main keyword you are going to be very happy.

jhongren are right about the long tail keywords but that is not something I'll try and rank my HOME PAGE for. When you have one site to build a foundation on, you want to work towards a bigger goal....not small fries.

Great advices! Thank you guys again!

I know that content is more important than design, but I still have a question regarding the site's theme. I agree with Michael that most of the high traffic blogs show the full posts on the homepage.

Would you guys use the current design or purchase Thesis Theme for WordPress — Solving the fundamental problems of Website development and design ? What difference would this make?

    Thank you!

Most I know of have magazine style WordPress themes that only show excerpts on the index page (John Chow, ProBlogger, Dosh Dosh, etc., etc.). Using excerpts also works well for SEO purposes too.

Using a fancy theme is for social referral readers, not search engine buyers. Using a stripped down, simple basic theme that highlights the advertising rather than the content improves the conversion rate from search engine visitors.

Do you want repeat social referral readers, ie visitors who aren't visiting your site to buy anything and won't click your ads. Trying to cater to them and make money is an exercise in frustration for most people. You have to decide if the goal of your site is to make money from buyer arriving from search engines or to socialize with repeat readers who aren't buyers.
